Opinions about nursing shoes.....

I know the subject has probably been beat to death, but I want to get fresh new opinions. I just got a student nurse job and have never worked a 12 hr shift. I have high arches and during clinicals my bottoms of my heels hurt. I also have scoliosis too.

I'm hearing a lot about Asics. And sketchers go walks. I have heard great things about the Dansko clogs too. I don't want to invest in a shoe that isn't going to be comfortable for me, and all of these shoes are pretty pricey.

Thank you for any and all advice/opinions.

I don't know too much about special nursing shoe brands much but a recent grad from my program and my classmate were chatting about shoes. He told us to buy comfortable shoes that fit well even if it may be on the somewhat pricey rather than something cheap but isn't really comfortable for almost all day wear.

I have the unisex Landau shoes with the removable insoles. They are really squishy, and great for 12 hour shifts. I have flat feet, so my feet are usually in incredible pain after about 45-60 minutes of standing, but with these I can totally tolerate a 12 hour clinical (standing/walking the whole time, except a 30 min lunch and 60 min post-conference). I got them in white (they match my scrubs the best) and they definitely show dirt very easily, but I find that they are super easy to clean. I just take a Cavi wipe to them when they get noticeably dirty, and it comes right off. I believe they were only around $40

The only negative thing is the top of them rub right over the top of my foot leaving that foot feeling bruised for a day or two, but that's more due to my anatomy than the actual shoe, ha!

Look at characteristics of shoes you already own and are the most comfortable. Go to a decent store (athletic if possible), take the shoes with you, and have the store folks help you select something similar.

I'm a real fan of Alegrias - HEREs my favorite style, but they have others as well. IMO, just as supportive as Dansko's but more comfy/flexible and quicker break-in time.

Danskos had a break in period of about 1 month. So I would wear really, really fluffy socks otherwise your feet will hurt for 1 month. It is almost painful but after you get used to them it is worth it. I also wear Alegria and they are a lot softer but the ones I have are not patent leather so if stuff gets on them they are ruined.
