Nursing School and Life

So I am currently ready to begin month 13 of a 15 month LPN program. Between going to school during the day and studying for more hours than any sane person should, I am limited on my availability to work. Though my grades are wonderful(my school uses ATI and I have yet to score below a level 2 on any of my proctored exams), I feel like my life is crashing down around me. I can't work like I would like to, and I live alone, so my finances are going to s%&$. I'm tired all the time(this time commitment will be the death of me), so I'm always questioning if it's anemia, depression, or if I'm really just that worn down. My cat hates me because I'm never home... Oh my God, my life sounds like a country song.

Anyways, I know that this will all be worth it in the end, but I'm having just a little bit of trouble seeing the bright side of the situation. If anyone would like to share their story, give advice, or even just a little encouragement, it would be greatly appreciated; I know that I cannot be the only person who feels/has felt broken and defeated while in nursing school.

I'm way more tired now than I was in nursing school...

Nursing school is a whole lot easier than actual nursing.

Hey I can relate because I also live alone most of the time and besides financial issues this also makes things harder emotionally and physically. Noone is here for a support system with us, and all the cleaning and caring for our pets (or kids if any single parents) is on us. I'm thankful my neighbor helps with my dogs sometimes. I know I can feel guilty about my pets but I think mostly it's me projecting, like they are really ok being left alone. I'm sure your cat is not feeling as bad as you think to be left alone. A comfy warm spot, maybe a window seat, some petting, food and clean litter makes a very lucky cat!

I've been having a little trouble adjusting to working nights. I started exercising again and that really really helps!!! Talk about going from sluggish to feeling better fast. I also take vitamins and know I feel different from when I don't. I take a food sourced multi, garlic pills, fish oil, cinnamon pill, calcium, milk thistle once a week, and green and blue algae. My multi is expensive but I don't eat too healthy so I think it's worth it for feeling better.

I also don't drink beverages with caffeine. I noticed when I drank coffee every morning that I was tired and crashing every day. Caffeine is a drug right! I think I had to withdrawal from it but then felt much better.

And don't forget to do some feel good things for yourself, like watch a movie or do some beauty things like make a homemade hair and face mask and relax, or call a friend you haven't talked to in a while. School won't suffer from 2 hours less out of the week that you put aside for you.

Hope you feel better soon.

Edit: oh gosh you're a guy well maybe my suggestion about beauty and whatever doesn't apply to you sorry but still do something for you, whatever you like!

yes! nursing school sucks. work life balance as a nurse can be hard too! hope u find balance and hey 3 months left...you're almost there!

Nursing school sucks! You have no control of your time or schedule. But remember you only have 2 months left don't burn out now. If you have set yourself up pretty well with grades you can sacrifice a few hours here and there, but you can't burn it at both ends. You have to prioritize what is important to you and maximize your time.

Working is tough too in the beginning, so set yourself up for success while studying for boards and starting a new job. Best of luck!
