New Study Idea

All:

- Went to A&P 102 lab last night. We are studying nerves and

blood cells.

- During the lab -- one of the girls took out a digital camera (the

cheap ones for $50), and started taking pics. She then

hooked the camera to her laptop and downloaded the pics.

- The pics came out great - especially the ones of the heart

model.

- Seems like a neat way to get the info you need.

- Sure could have used this for the muscle/bone test back in

A&P 101. The models look nothing like the pics in the anatomy

texts.

- Just thought I'd share this with you.

I would have loved to do that in our lab, but using human cadavers, we were not allowed to take photos. One student argued that she didn't understand why we couldn't. I looked at her and asked if she would want students taking pictures of her grandmother or grandfather (if they had been one of our cadavers). I agree it would have been very helpful, but I did find a GREAT book that closely matched our cadavers for the most part. The only part that was difficult to figure out was the heart and that was due to our dissecting the female's heart opposite of what the book did. So when we took out the male's heart, we made sure to dissect it on the same plane as the book. The name of the book was McMinn's Color Atlas of Human Anatomy and it was an awesome book to help me along in lab. I aced all my practicals with the cadavers (except the one on reproductive parts....go figure!!!) LOL

I have a camera the records video so I sometimes take pictures or make a video and explain it to myself. The schoool leaves our models in the libary so I can do it with out distrubing anyone in class. Works well for me!

I think that was a great ideal with the digital camera. I wish i would have thought of it in my A&P class. I have to take another A&P so i will have to try that! Thanks, John for the great ideal!

I guess I'm lucky. I'm taking Anatomy (no physiology) and my teacher put up a website showing what we need to know for lab. Right now we are doing the small heart and the Don Jake Saunders heart models. My teacher has both of these online along with practice tests. Which is great since I don't have to worry about missing lab or having to leave early.

I always just got a really good Anatomy book (out text for the class wasn't very good) and there are some really good sites online showing a lot of detail of the body. But I guess if you can't find any of that a digital camera is not a bad idea then! I would have never though to use mine for school.

I took my videocamera to our lab and used it to walk through the whole cat muscle system. It was good to go through and remind myself of the location and look of the muscles. It also was a good way to study as I heard my own voice knowing the info.
