Microbiology help?

Nursing Students General Students

Published

Well, I put Micro off until the end and now I have to take it . . . I'm dreading it. I barely survived chemistry and the thought of micro brings flashbacks of chemistry! This summer I will be taking micro and nursing role transition. Anyone have tips for getting through micro? Websites or study guides?

I really thought I had seen a Microbiology for Dummies book before but when I looked on Amazon, nada.

TIA!

i am currently taking micro. my professor is awesome.i have only used my textbook.its not that bad.you can do it............

Chemistry is much harder, micro was mostly labs dealing with bacteria and microbes, mine was easier than expected. I just used the book as well.

Micro and chem are two different animals. Think of micro as A&P through a microscope and Chem as its evil distant relative! I love my prof, Im taking micro in an 8 week accelerated course right now. If you could pull through A&P and CHem, you can get through micro!

micro to me was very similar to biology just more in depth...look back at your biology notes and become familiar with eukaryotic and prokaryotic cells. Also you will learn tons of different types of bacteria and may have to identify an unknown bacteria in lab. It sounds hard but if you break it down, it's not that bad. My micro book and internet helped me.

Thanks for the encouragement . . . I hope that micro is distant from chemistry but at my school I read something that said the class builds on chemistry skills (what skills?) and I took chemistry around 4 years ago. Plus, every single micro student that I talk to says that this professor teaches on a very high level. Worries me because I have to continue to work full-time while taking these classes. I'm going to do it- I have to just thought someone could offer some study aides.

Thanks agian.

There is some chemistry somewhere in teh middle but trust me nothing as in depth as the Chemistry class. Micro is more about Key terms, definitions, memorization, and remembering certain processes. You can relax Micro is no where near as difficult as Chem :o

Awesome. I feel better. Thank you.

barron's microbiology study guide was pretty good. it breaks stuff down into simple levels. and there are lots of online resources that are super. we used them a lot in class because it was a mixed course. just google it or search for micro resources here on AN

I will do that, thank you. BTW, I like your screen name, it reminds me of "Remember the Titans".

If you already survived your other classes/pre-reqs you will most certainly survive micro!

Even though I enjoyed my teacher and classmates, that class was more difficult to me simply because of my LACK of interest in all the minutiae of bacteria! I heavily relied on being there for every single lecture, taking good notes, and highlighting in my book. I still don't feel like my brain retained most of it... but when will we be doing that in our nursing career??!

I got my A and that's all that mattered to me :) Haha

My best tip - go to every class.
