Nursing Students General Students

Hey guys!

How about we start a Spring 2008 graduates thread? I noticed the 2007 class had a thread on this so I thought it might be fun to start ours.

When do you plan to take the NCLEX?

Will you work before you take the boards?

Have you started applying for jobs?

Where do you plan to work? Unit and shift?

What gift would you like to give urself?

Here I go...

I graduate in June and plan to take the boards in August

I will not work while studying for the boards. I have a friend who started in the MICU before taking the boards, and 2 months later she still does not feel ready to take it:o

I planned on applying in January, but I think I might start now since UCLA has now created a wait list for new grads:uhoh3:

I plan to work in a MICU, noc shift

Gift? I would like a puppy. I always wanted one

Now, Spring class of 2008 tell us what your plans are! 1, 2, 3, GO...

when do you plan to take the nclex?

asap. before sept., so i dont have to take the juris prudence. (ithink thats how it is spelled.)

if you don't mind my asking...what is that & why do you have to take it if you wait until september?

I dont know if its all over the US or just Texas, but now we have to take a second test over the Nurse Practice Act in order to be licensed. Not just the NCLEX anymore. This is starting Sept. 1, 2008. Crazy!!!!:uhoh3:

Please tell me more about this Juris prudence thing or post the link. I'm graduating in May and I am going to take the NCLEX and work in Texas. Your post shocked me and this is the first that I have heard about this.

Thanks

Thanks for the info. I haven't heard of it in Indiana, but you never know what the state will come up with next :)

I thought the Juris Prudence was related to law and lawyers. Is this meant to be an ethics thing. Im here in California and have never heard of it. Im running a google search...

This development really stresses me out.

Phew! Glad it does not appply to me

When do you plan to take the NCLEX? I graduate on May 10th, will take the NCLEX just as soon as possible after that.

Will you work before you take the boards? I'm already working full-time as a Postpartum/Nursery nurse in OB, and I will continue there after graduation.

Have you started applying for jobs? My nurse manager has pretty much guaranteed me that I will be able to continue working in OB at my hospital--she has mentioned several times that she's excited the transition to L/D will be so easy since I'm already competent in PP/Nsy. I guess I need to nail that down during our yearly goal sessions. :)

Where do you plan to work? Unit and shift? I work in a small rural hospital, about 40 miles from my house (don't like the drive, but love the facility), OB doing PP/Nsy right now as an LPN, but will be doing LD/PP/Nsry as an RN. I work 7p-7a and will probably continue that shift for a time, but look forward to working days.

What gift would you like to give yourself? A trip to Disney World, probably October/November 2008. My family deserves a big "thank you" after putting up with my nutty nursing school schedule for 2 1/2 years!

When do you plan to take the NCLEX?

I am planning on taking my NCLEX by the end of July @ the latest. I graduate in May. I would like to have it done by the end of June beginning of July, ultimatey.

Will you work before you take the boards?

I haven't actually thought about this yet. If there is a graduate nurse position available, then I am sure I will take it and work per diem or part time.

Have you started applying for jobs?

Where do you plan to work? Unit and shift?

I have the hospital where I am doing my school clinical rotations at that will offer more than likely offer me a job, but may not be in the area that I prefer, or at another hospital, which is actually closer to my house. In a 20 minute radius, I have quite a few hospitals to choose from, so the job that I want, hopefully, I'll be able to get. I'll probably be working nights since that is more commonly available.

What gift would you like to give yourself?

A trip to Europe and hopefully someone will think of including a spa package;)

When do you plan to take the NCLEX?

As soon as is legally possible. The NY hospitals want the license first (apparently the permit options are being phased out).

Will you work before you take the boards?

I would like to get a summer internship while waiting for the ability to take the boards (I'm told there is 4-6 week waiting period from graduation to date of test). I need money.

Have you started applying for jobs?

No.

Where do you plan to work? Unit and shift?

I'm considering Oncology. I did a 2 month externship in Oncology and I'm still interested in the specialty. I don't think newbies get choices with shifts and I will probably be working nights in the beginning.

What gift would you like to give yourself?

I would love to buy a new car (which would be my first car) -- however, my student loan payments will probably squash that plan.

Good luck everyone!:wshgrt:

when do you plan to take the nclex?

i am hoping to take this asap..maybe within a month of graduation. i am moving from va to nc, so i hope this won't make it complicated..i need to get my school to get my records to nc bon.

will you work before you take the boards?

[color=#00bfff]yes, i am a social worker right now. i figured if i have managed to work while in school i will find a way to hang in there. my school uses meds pub so i am sure i will be online a lot. please wish me luck on selling my house! i am planning on moving to the outer banks this summer to join my boyfriend who just transfered for his job. does anyone know anything about the outer banks hospital? if i sell my house i will be able to work something part time..okay sorry about the book!

have you started applying for jobs?

not yet. i have done my clinicals at uva in charlottesville and i am still in denial that i won't be working there.

where do you plan to work? unit and shift?

i have no idea. i am thinking maybe at the hospital out there (outer banks). i know there are a few positions open. i am nervous about applying just yet.

what gift would you like to give urself?
