A Little Stressed Out..Already

I start nursing school on Aug 16, 2004 and I am exicted but also stressed out. It seems as if things that need to be done before school starts keep popping up on me. I took an American Heart CPR class last summer thinking that the CPR card would be good for two years, but the program I'm in want us to have CPR every year. I didn't know that and the information they sent me doesn't say that taking a CPR class every year was a requirement. The deadline to have a copy of our CPR card in the office is Aug 2. Luckily it wasnt too late to sign up for the class but it cost me $61. ($50 for the class and $11 for the book) The class I took last year was only $40 and they supplied the book for free. I don't understand why they want us to have the class every year when certification is good for two year. I just feel like my program is trying to milk it's students for every single dime. My tution was $590 and my books are gonna be about $600. They haven't disscussed uniforms or anything else we may need this semester. (I'm assuming they will go over all that at orientation on Aug 11 and 12) Thank God I'm still working or else I'd really be looking crazy!!:uhoh21: I'm just terrified something else will come up that I won't be prepared to handle.

Well my question is..Is anyone else going through this? Does your school seem unorganized? Are they giving you the correct information within a timely manner? Anyone else ready to scream!!!:rotfl: It's not even August yet and I'm already stressed out. At this rate I'll have an ulcer by the time I graduate.

I just finished the CPR course the 21st of this month. Had already re-certified in January simply to keep my certification up to date, but that wasn't any good with my school, since it wasn't taken between May and August.

So another $60 down the drain (out of pocket) and $21 for book and pocket mask.

But school is worth every penny to me, and although I may grumble and fuss at times, I wouldn't have it any other way, except to have done this at an earlier age! :wink2:

Just remember, that it all works out in the end for the best......Hang in there! ;)

Thanks again everyone for your kind words of encouragement. I signed up to take the AHA CPR class this Saturday from 9-4. One less thing to worry about I guess. I'm just ready for orientation and school to start so my heart can stop pounding. Good luck to all who start this Fall, and Congradulations to all who have already been down this road!!

Oh yeah and one thing I did get out of my second CPR class is if you are renewing your CPR Health Care Provider Certification, and it has not expired, you can do so on the internet.

Where can I renew it online? My school also requires us to renew our TWO YEAR card every year. I am scheduled to attend next friday, but online would be much more convenient.

Thanks!

The school I hope to attend wants First Aid and CPR redone every year as well. Reason being, they want it as fresh as possible in your mind. And considering the job you are going into, you just never know when you may need that info. :)

Good luck to you!!

nursebunky, I totally understand. My school has sent me nothing but an acceptance letter. I have been through this before, though. It's not you..it's nursing school, I swear. I had the same problem at my previous school.

I had to call/email and ask about immunizations before clinicals, CPR course, uniforms, etc. And orientation is in three weeks, then classes begin.

You have to take the lead and force them to answer you, sadly.

good luck with school ! :)

It's funny because I talked to someone at the school about them wanting us to have CPR every year and she gave this Just Because answer. It doesn't make sense to me at all. How hard is it to remember the ABC's and 15 to 2..Hellllloooooooo a five year old could do CPR if you gave him the right coloring book!! I do realize it's important, I also feel that my school is just trying to get all it can out of us financially. People keep hollering about there being a nursing shortage and yet schools make it so difficult to get in and once your in they make it hard to stay. No problem..I'm determined to be an RN even if it lands me on antipsychotic medication or worse in the looney bin b/c the meds didn't work.:lol2: :roll :chair: :uhoh21: :crying2: :uhoh3: :chuckle
