I thought it might be a good idea to share creative ways that we all study or just traditional ways that you may think everyone already know of, whether you or still in pre-req's or entering your... Read More

Hi Brown Sugar...a couple of things about printing out note cards. First - you'll have to check out how your printer handles notecards. Some older printers may have difficulty printing them okay, but most should handle them all right. I use 4x6 cards for one basic reason: the printer has to have certain size margins, and there's no way to get around that, so I get the most use out of cards that size. Secondly - what program do you generally use for your word processing needs? I use Word Perfect because I've found it to be one of the most flexible and useful programs. In WP, you can go to "page setup" (under File or Format options) and set your page size as 4x6 index card. You'll then have to do a little bit of experimenting with the margin widths to get your cards to print the way you want them. Once you find the perfect formula for printing them, save the template you've created and use that for typing up your cards.
I'm in the process of adding all my note card files to my website, and if you'd like, you can check out my page for pediatric notes ( Pediatric Nursing Notes ) to see how those files work for you. If you use WP there are files preformatted for you, but if you use another word processing program, choose the "download generic word processing file" links. Then you'll just need to experiment some to find what works best for you.
    Be blessed!

making my own note cards and flowsheets after reviewing the information

I found that putting the information into my own words, making connections in my mind and figuring out how to relate to the information was the most important thing.

I tried preprinted cards and doing things on the computer (I typed so much in school and do it without thinking, less connected than writing) but I found the process of thinking things out and physically writing them out most effective...I usually remembered the content with minimal review after making out my own cards.

Oh thank you so much Janleb! I hope to add to it a bunch in the coming month or so, since I'll have a little time off from classes (finally). I think the part I'll add to the most is the online tests. I think those are lots of fun!
    Be blessed!!!

    CRNASOMEDAY,

I just wanted to say thank you for replying to my message. I too have added your webage to my favorites. I have a question I viewed some of the ped notecards. I was wondering if the lines are printed on the card or if the wording is the only thing printed on the card.

Hi again Brown Suga....the only thing that will print on the note cards is the words. The lines you see on the site are just the background, but that's not in the notecard files. Let me know if you have any trouble printing them. Take care...and be blessed.....
