How about a thread that will allow us to introduce ourselves to those who are new and the new students can do the same.

Specializes in general surgical, women's surgery.

I'm another "older" student. I have a BS in Biology from 1977 but have spent all of these past years supporting hubby's medical career and raising our 4 children who are now 26, 23, 20 and 17. Preparing for "empty nest", I decided to return to school and see if the old brain could still learn new material. I'm now about to complete the 2nd semester of 5 in an ADN/RN program but since I don't plan to juggle clinicals and kids home from college in the summer, I won't be finished until Dec. 2005... well past my 50th birthday! Learning at this age requires a bit more effort, but not impossible... and, surprisingly, I've done quite well, so far. Also, nursing seems to be a pretty natural progression from 26 years of motherhood. I love all I'm learning and the opportunity to extend patient care. I also like the fact that nursing is such a great profession of diversity and flexibility, regarding hours of work... because I want the ability to be available to enjoy grandchildren in the approaching years. I just hope my brain and body can keep up with the demands! Good luck to all! :specs:

I'm new here! Live in Arkansas, mother of 2 teenagers and have been a nurse for 15 years. I work in long term care and am anxious to find out how the rest of my colleagues cope with the problems we share.
