I Need Some Advise.....Please

I am in my second semester of pre-reqs and I feel like College Bio is pushing me away from fulfilling my dreams. I did very well last semester and I am not too concerned about my other three classes, but this BIO class is scaring me!!!

Unfortunately, I dropped out very early on in school and I never learned this periodic table, atoms and all this stuff. Is there any advise? I already spoke to my prof. and expressed if there was some tutoring I can attend, but he doesn't know.

I just feel so lost in this class.

Most institutions have some kind of Academic Support department where students can go for tutoring. I go to a teeny tech in Nowhere, NH, and we have one! So you may want to ask your registrar's office or student services office what they offer.

If your school has some kind of an honors program, often those students are willing to tutor as well, often for free, cuz it looks good on grad school applications. Or, as someone else said, maybe even somebody in the class would be willing to help out.

Your instructor could have been a bit more supportive and offered some alternatives! I'd say to certainly hit him/her up for extra help during office hours, and ask tons of questions in class. If you don't understand something, odds are there are half a dozen other students who don't either, but won't speak up.

Odds are, you'll do fine . . . you obviously care how well you do, and that's the first step! Just direct your energy toward studying and asking questions, and work hard to not fall behind. You'll get there!

Thanks Judith. I have some tutoring with another classmate on Wens. She all ready took Chemistry so she said that helped her out a lot in this class. Another classmate said the he just reads the chapter over and over again and it makes more sense. I am getting great advise from this board and from school and it has only made me feel a lot better!! My goal is to pass this class with B! And I am sticking to that! I don't care if I have to spend my extra time in the tutoring center!

Thanks again! :)

All good replys here. i was one of the blessed, chemistry fasinated me. My suggestion is to always read ahead and have questions ready to ask in class that way the prof is always directed towards your learning difficulty plus it informs them that you have been reading.

cheers!

I had to drop Chemistry last semester. I was taking it with A&P I, and there was no way I could devote the time to both classes. I know exactly how you feel, I am sooo dreading taking Chemistry again. The 4 weeks I was in Chem. I was so lost and just hanging on by my fingernails.

What really sucks is that my husband is a Chemistry whiz, but when he tried to help me, he got frustrated with my lack of basic knowledge and had a hard time teaching me. I guess what I meant there was that he couldn't believe how completely clueless I was. :chuckle

Hang in there! I'm sending good wishes your way!

I just dropped my chem class, too. I was taking it with A&P 2 and I was totally lost in chemistry. I never took it in highschool either. My professor was one that assumed everyone had highschool chemistry and we should comprehend what he is talking about. I also had to drop my A&P class ( having some medical problems) but hope to start back up again in the fall. I feel bad about dropping out this semester.... but I just can't handle the stress from classes on top of being sick. :sniff:

But good luck to you. Everyone here has some good advice!

tabbeycatt, don't feel bad for having to drop out this semester. I felt really guilty for dropping chem last sememster, but then realized it's not the end of the world. I'm in no huge hurry! I ended up doing well in A&P I, and had I stayed in chem, I probably wouldn't have passed either of them! Good luck.

Thanks for the positive feedback. Odd because my husband has the courage to teach me Math and I get frustrated....go figure.

Anyways, good luck when you take Chem next semester.

Tabbey,

Sorry to hear how your semester went. Good luck in the fall!

Just started Chem this semester.........and the Professor is a MASOCHIST :roll

He doesn't stop for questions, tells us to get outside help, he doesn't have time with 100 students to help everyone that needs it

He expects EXACT duplicates to his sentences on each lab.............has one system for homework.......front of 8 1/2 x 11 page, line between each question...........no variations, use whatever INK you want, just no red, green, purple etc..............

If he hands out copied assignments, and you mess it up and take the time to go type an exact replica of his paper (font was 2 points off) he does not accept it!!!!!!!

 Can we say ANAL??????

But............such is life.......I am running into all kinds at college, LOL

Being a stay-at-home mom for almost 14 years has it's drawbacks......you tend to forget what such a wide variety of people there are.

"C" is my goal, anything above that is a blessing :)
