I need help with a little survey. I'm just curious about something. For those of you that have heard of the HESI test please reply. Can you tell me if it is a requirement to take the HESI test and if you take it and fail or you held back for doing so, or you and the instructors can just see what you and them need to focus on.

You don't have to give me your name, just list your school's name if you don't mind. My instructor tried to tell me today its like a common thing that schools are making this HESI test a requirement and with penalty if you don't pass.

Thanks for your time.

Can't give you my school's name, but it is in VA. We are required to pass HESI for both Med/Surg semesters, OB, and Peds in order to advance. We do not have to pass HESI for psych or Fundamentals. We have to pass the exit HESI in order to graduate.

Thanks

What is that?

What does it stand for?

Just curious

Specializes in Med-Surg.

There is one school here that requires you to pass the HESI to graduate.

Specializes in Float Pool, ICU/CCU, Med/Surg, Onc, Tele.

Don't have it, never heard of it, lol. Sorry!

HESI stands for Health Education Systems Inc.. Its a company that supplies an LPN Exit exam and RN exit exam and the exam I would be speaking of is the LPN exit exam.

We have it and, if we do not pass with 85 or higher, are required to do oodles of remediation work. However, they told us that they cannot require we actually pass it at this score for graduation. In other words, if we never pass it, we can still graduate. The remediation work is killer so the goal is obviously to pass. :) My school is a private university with a 98% NCLEX pass rate. The test is administered in the final semester so I'll be taking it in the first week of November.

Thanks PJ

We have to do the remediation and get held back 5 weeks and then re-test, and not promised a seat back into the program because they don't know about available spaces and this is only a semester before you're due to finish the ADN program. This was told to us a couple of weeks before we got out for Summer break.

Anyone out there at a State Institution and being held back?

Specializes in PCU, Critical Care, Observation.

My school uses ERI rather than HESI. Very similar from what I've heard & yes, we have to pass the test every semester in order to continue in the program. They do allow us remediation & one retake if necessary. It's simply a measure to see how we will do on the nclex & to make sure we have learned what we need to know each semester.
