:o I feel so bummed out now . I will have to start my program in January instead of August. I still have a few prerequisite courses to take and I thought I could take them at the community college while taking my nursing classes at the University. During orientation my advisor signed me up for the nursing classes and the prerequisite courses I still needed to complete. As I was changing my schedule, my advisor informed me that I cannot take the core classes off campus.

I have limited financial aid, so I thought this would be better for me so that I wouldn't have to pay a lot out of my pocket. The University is like $630/credit hour. I only have about $5000 left in student loans. They don't offer nursing classes in the summer so that means I will be off for a semester.

I had been so excited about starting nursing school and quitting my full time job so that I could go. I don't know what direction to go in now. Any advice? I should be glad that I can go in Jan there are some that have long waiting lists, so I really shouldn't complain.

No advice, but my college is the same way (private Catholic one), and doesn't want ANY matriculated student taking classes elsewhere. I was peeved, because I wanted to finish Microbio this summer, but they didn't offer it THIS summer (did last though). I begged and pleaded with my advisor, but she said no (plus it was WAY cheaper at the local CC).

Then I found out from a friend who is starting here this fall (and she is in that very Micro course I wanted to take!) that THREE students from my college, who are ACTIVELY IN the nursing program here, got permission to take Micro at the CC and are in my friend's class. I was sooooooooo mad! Not only could I have saved myself a lot of money (which I need since I'm getting divorced and have 4 kids and no job), but I could have then just worked until my nursing classes start up again in January.

They say the squeaky wheel and that garbage =----- well, I *WAS* a squeaky wheel, and it still didn't work. :(

Have you thought about taking out private student loans? As far as I know there is no limit on those. And they are deferred till 6 months after graduation, likewise are government student loans. All of my private loans do accrue interest but I pay the interest every month.

I can definetly relate with the high cost of a private school program. Best of luck to you.
