How to succeed in "hard" classes

There have been quite a few threads about how hard this or that class is, and what do you think your hardest subject will be and I'm terrrified of such and such which starts Monday.

Since, for the most part, I've been a fairly successful student, I wanted to share some ideas that really helped me succeed. I believe that if you want to succeed, you'll find a way to do it. Get a tutor, take a more basic course in preparation for the more challenging one, hang out with people who use the course material in their jobs, whatever it takes to make it more familiar (and thus less frightening) will help you learn.

But first, stop thinking of them as hard classes. No one knows anything until they learn it. People with less going for them than you have, have succeeded, and you can too.

A few tips:

**Don't ever cut class.

**Pay attention in class.

**Keep up with the assignments.

**Take care of yourself: eat right, get enough rest, HAVE SOME FUN!

**Keep a positive frame of mind. Do what you have to to look forward to each class period.

**Spend some time each day on the class material: it almost doesn't matter what it is, as long as you continually expose yourself to it. A few minutes here and there adds up to real time and real learning.

**If you like the internet, google the topics in the course material and read up on it there. You'd be amazed how much you can pick up "surfing."

**Don't forget to breathe.

Good luck!

Great post. I would add: stay in the moment, realize you can only do one thing at a time. :)

And try not stay on the Allnurses board too long.

don't be afraid to admit when you don't understand and then get help!!!

don't let one negative experience set the mood for the rest of the semester.
