How much work in RN school?

I worked full time and went to school full time. It was very difficult and I wouldn't recommend it. I also had a lot of PTO that I was able to use so that helped me.

I'd say you would be safe working about 40 hours per pay period.

I currently work full time, but the hospital I work at has a special program for nursing students that allow them to work part time (while earning their full time benefits and salary) while going to nursing school full time. I will changing my hours to ~24 hours a week right before classes start in August, which is a full time BSN program.

Might depend on your home life as well. My semesters in Nursing School are 18 credits (14 hours a week in class & 16 hours a week in clinicals), I am also a wife and mother to three teenagers. I worked at my job 18 hours a week and that was tough for me.

MAN Can I come work there?! Ehhh I can't complain though... I volunteer at the local hospital and since I have pt experience I get to shadow the RNs and watch how they take histories, do assessments, and start IVs... But getting paid and benefits would be shweet!

I will be in an ADN program full time and have to work part time because I have 5 kids. Part time nights 2 nights a week 7p-7:30a.

I'm a full time student and I work part time and have young kids. It can be done but it is not easy. Somethings got to give. Dinners may not be fancy, ballet class may need to be put on hold, the whole family will need to help with housework, there are many sacrifices.

If you can afford not to work-do it. But some people have to (like me) and I think it can be done successfully.

While doing my pre reqs, I work between 10-16 hrs a week...I have a 6 year old, and my 9 year old stepson. However, when I start my BSN program, I plan to quit my job and live off financial aid and welfare. It's risky, but I'm not risking my career when people's lives are in my hands! Also, I'm not sure how many schools do this, but at my university, after your 1st year (during your off semester), you can apply for a co-op where you work as a nursing assistant, follow a nurse around and work 3-4 12s per week. It costs the amount of a 3 credit hr class, but making $14 an hr will even it out quickly

Go per diem while you are in school so you can work when you have time and study when you don't. The hospitals attached to nursing schools here prefer to hire students per diem for exactly that reason.
