How far are your clinicals?

  1. I beg everyone's pardon if this thread has been beat to death, but I am too lazy to search back through umpteen thousand posts to find another one.

How far do you have to travel to get to your clinical sites? My first one (LTC) was about 40 minutes from my house, my current one (Med-Surg) is about 50 minutes away. I just got my schedule for next semester and I am tickled pink to see that my Peds clinical is 20 minutes away and my OB rotation is going to be done in the same hospital where I delivered my son, which is right around the corner!

My first semester clinicals were one hour away. If the stars and moon align and I am lucky to be one of the 10 picked for summer rotation at the other hospital we learn at, I'll be a mere 10 minutes from my house. I gave the "pleading eyes" and "longful sighs" when they were talking about it in class, so hopefully I'll be chosen, :chuckle !!

Most of our clinical sites are about 30 minutes away from my house--right by school. It would take about 15 minutes to get to them IF traffic wasn't always horrible when we have to be there. There is one hospital that is 5 minutes from my house that we use for a few clinicals, but it can be tough to get into the group going there.

Last semester, my clinical site was only about 10-15 minutes away. This semester, one site was 40 minutes away and the other is about 45 minutes away. I don't really mind the driving though---I'm completeing my med-surg clinical at one of the best hospitals in the area. So, for me the drive is worth it.

I will be flying every other weekend from Indiana to Syracuse, NY for weekend clinicals.

Could not find any other college or nursing school that offered a weekend-only program.

I am taking the non-nursing classes (anatomy, micro-biology) here in Indiana. I alreay have a college degree, so at least the "general" courses are out of the way.

    Will be fun.

next semester [summer] will be the longest ride to a clinical site of 1 hour or so for me. one huge advantage, my children will be out of school and that is one less worry of how they would get to and from school.

I've only had 2 placements so far, both in the same hospital which is on campus, and a 5-min walk from my house! If only I could be so lucky in the future! It won't happen though....

Our clinicals this year have been pretty close by, within 10 minutes of the school. However next year and the year after, they will be an hour away; we are in a pretty small town and are going to the nearest big state university for a lot of our clinicals. But since we all carpool using vehicles from our school's motor pool and take turns driving, it isn't as bad as it could be.
