help- school is holding up transcript

I just graduated and am trying to get my transcript sent to the BON so I can take NCLEX. There's one woman who sends out the transcripts (I attended a private college) and she's had over a week to send out transcripts for our class, which is only about 90 people. She has this huge attitude and purposely takes forever to do everything.

Word is going around that they are holding our transcripts on purpose until we complete the NCLEX prep the school is offering, which takes 6 weeks to complete. They are not allowed legally to do this.

Today she told me that my transcript is in the mail, and I feel sure she lied (as she has in the past about other things) and I will find out it hasn't been sent.

What should be my next step? Who should I contact to get help with this? I'm in a dire situation as all the new grad programs I've applied for require me to have tested by a certain date.

In kansas I know you can take your nclex before your transcript has arrived. Check with your state and test center to verify that. But I took my NCLEX before they sent our transcripts.

Schools often play the "hold the transcript" game unrelated to unpaid tuition and fees. Wait it out or go whole hog and have an attorney write an "attorney letter". You might be able to bluff slowpoke into speeding up her job.

Also, the woman who is supposed to be sending out transcripts surely has a supervisor who she answers to, chat with that individual respectfully, and alert them to the situation. As long as you are professional and courteous, it will get you a long way.

I would not necessarily believe a rumor going around that transcripts are held until you finish the review course.

Call the BON and inquire about the status of your application.

Go to the Registrar's office and obtain a copy of your transcript for your portfolio and while you are there, ask for a verification that the sealed transcript was mailed and when for your records. If you encounter any resistance, ask to speak to the Registrar.

I asked about my transcripts at the registrar's office one time and got the whole story about the nursing school being totally in charge. They took responsibility for nothing. So, don't be surprised if your registrar's office does not also defer to the nursing department.

Actually....they can. If this course is a part of the required program then you need to take the course to get your transcripts. Yes it is legal.

Check with your program director and the Registrar

Thanks guys. I'm going to call the BON tomorrow and see if they've received anything and then go from there.
