HELP!! Dismissed from BSN & looking for a new school in NY - TRANSFER NURSING MAJOR

Nursing Students General Students

Published

I have been going to a university in NY for about 3years now, attempting to complete the RN4 (BSN) program they have, this past semester I failed two nursing courses with a C- and was automatically dismissed from the nursing school. This is my first time ever being in this situation. I have ALWAYS gotten A's and B's. Regardless of this situation I still managed to come out with above a 3.0 GPA. I am just worried about not being accepted anywhere because of the dismissal. I need the second chance because this is the ONLY thing I want. I do not want to go the LPN route or waste money on another degree that I do not care to have. I will do an associate program or another bachelors program if possible. I do not have another degree so I can not do an ABSN or anything like that. I need names of ANY COLLEGE OR UNIVERSITY OR COMMUNITY COLLEGE IN NEW YORK STATE that will accept me. I know there are many other nursing students that have been in my same predicament and are now nurses working in their field of choice so PLEASE extend a hand and help me out if you are one of these people. I need help finding a university that will take me. I know for sure that Molloy will not take me. I need names of places that will take me for sure so that i can apply there. I have called many places and need help. As many know, the application process is long and I have my Financial aid on the line. I can't wait for a school that might accept me when there are others out there that definitely will accept me. So can anyone pleaseeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee help a fellow nursing major out.

Have you attempted to appeal your dismissal?

I second appealing. At least try! Speak to your advisor and someone in the financial aid office. People are always willing to listen and help. If you appeal and nothing comes out of it, at least you can say you tried. Continue to call around to colleges and universities and let them know your situation and ask if they accept students like you. You'll probably get a better concrete answer calling around instead of asking us about schools in NY that accept dismissed students lol, you're not guaranteed to get answer here but calling places, you will get a yes or no, or possibly a maybe if they review each person on a case by case basis. Don't freak out though, you have options. I lost my financial aid this year because of last year and am turning in my appeal today. If it doesn't get approved, it will suck, but I can take out a loan. There are always options

I suspect you're going to have a hard time finding another nursing program that will accept you. Most schools require, in order to accept someone as a transfer student, that you have left your previous program in good standing.

FutureRNx3,

I left an RN program the first time around and had no difficulty getting into another nursing program. I know others who have failed a nursing course and went to another program and graduated successfully. The problem lies in that you failed 2 nursing classes and were dismissed. I honestly don't know if any nursing program will accept you with this record. There are several 2 year programs in my area, but I have no way of knowing if they would take you for sure.

Thank you. Yes I appealed and did every thing I possibly could have now I am just searching for another opportunity. This occurred to a good portion of my class. Many people failed out of the program and now we are all looking for another shot. I tried calling some but I felt like I would get rejected no matter what I did if I didn't go to them with my transcript and explain my situation in person. So I am setting up appointments and meeting with admission counselors.

Thank you for responding to my post. Yes, of course. I just got their decision; they did not approve it. I am desperate right now, that is why I am coming here to ask for ANY ONE's help. I am willing to move upstate or downstate, anywhere I have to in order to do this.

A good bunch of them do but there are some that do not. I am trying to find those that will give me a second chance regardless. I know there is at least one school in New York. I want to apply to as many as possible and just try to prove to them im worth the second shot

Did you try EC?

No, I am currently trying to figure out if that is an option. Do you know anyone that has been accepted there after something like this?.... Sadly I am still searching. ANY ONE PLEASE HELP! I NEED NAMES OF SCHOOLS

I have appealed the decision and it was denied. I was unsuccessful for personal health reasons, not because I am not an A+ student, I would not like to get into why. I am currently working as a nursing assistant but becoming a registered nurse is what I want more than anything, of course, I do not plan to stop there so please help me find a way. I know that without a doubt. It does not say that I was dismissed on my transcript also. I contacted the school and their is no real record of me being dismissed but you can obviously see that I have taken nursing courses so there is no lying about being in the program.

Why would be unwilling to be an LPN? They are nurses as well. Perhaps you should evaluate why you failed out of the program. Even if another school is willing to accept you into their program, what if you fail out of that one as well? I'm not saying you will, but you should carefully consider the consequences and look at why you struggled in your nursing program. Also, I'm not sure if you meant to come off this way, but by stating that you don't want to go the LPN route, it makes it sound like you don't really want to be a nurse. Because they are nurses as well, and if you REALLY wanted to be a nurse as much as you are gushing about it, you shouldn't mind taking that extra step. Just some food for thought.
