Okay i have to write an admission essay and here is what i have to write about...Please read the philosophy of the school of nursing and write and essay describing your reasons for selecting SON as an educational program and nursing as a profession.

Philosophy:

The SON is an integral part of patient care services. the faculty of the SON supports the mission of the hospital and the philosophy of the patient care services Div., that patients have unique values needs, goals and capabilities for health. Further, the faculty believes that edu. for nursing is best accomplished in a clinical setting which is dedicated to the pursuit of excellence in prof. nursing and to the delivery of quality care to ind., family, and community. these beliefs serve as a basis for the interpretation of the concepts which follow...(sigh...this is sooo long)

Mankind: Mankind is envisioned individually and collectivley, as a creative, unique, self-determined, hollistic being whose inherent nature is good. Mankind is conceived as an open system in a dynamic interaction with the internal and external enviroment directed by individualized values and beliefs.

Enviroment: is viewed as an aggregate of constantly changing physical, psychosocial and cultural conditions. In this muslidimensional climate of interrelated events, there is a reciprocal exchange between amd and then enviro. determining the formation, survival, and quality of life of the individual, family and community. through planned interrelationships, the nurse becomes a purposeful agent to influence the quality of man's interaction with his enviroment.

Health: is a constantly changing phenomenon. it is based on an individual's perception of his quality of life at any given time. this self-perception is influenced by one's history, culture, heritage, family and the enviroment at large. health care choices are influenced by relationships with family, significant others, health care professionals, an assimilation of cultural values, expectations and the reality of resourses.

Nursing: is a caring prof. that provides a service offered to others through the establishment of relationships purposefully forcused toward health. this is charactorized by trust, meaningful communications, and an attitude of caring and respect.

okay that's most of it, the rest talks about the school and what the faculty does to help the student. so anyway...my main question is WHERE DO I START? i'm not sure i understand the best place to begin...thanks all!!!

its pretty self explanatory..

write about why you want to get into their program and why you want to be a nurse.

Just start writing. Once you're done, start revising. 3 revision minimum.

edit>> post a revision here and ill read it for you

I feel your pain:uhoh21: I am also writing a admission essay and I was having some probs, but look at it this way...you are one step closer to getting in!

the parts i highlighted in red are what i would consider to be the meat of their mission. i think their last statement about nursing is important and i bolded the most important. the green bolded words, i believe, are important qualities they are looking for in prospective nursing students.

now, given that, start by telling them that you want to attend their school because you know that their reputation is that they train nurses who are committed to giving a very high quality of care to not only individual patients, but to the entire community. tell them you believe that everything we do impacts all others people we interact with during our lives. we never completely know the result of the seeds of wisdom and learning we plant during our interactions with others, but we want to make sure that we are doing it with excellence. i would focus my essay on describing your reason for wanting to be a nurse is because you feel you possess characteristics about you that will make you a complete person (goes back to the holistic idea): honesty, sensivity to others, open in your communications, respect for all people, and a strong desire to nurture and care for others (goes back to ideas in their mission statement). as a nurse you can see yourself as someone who will help others to have a positive influence on people's lives. end with how you would be an excellent ambassador of their school's philosophy. that pretty much encompasses their mission statement.

now, you just have to organize it into a nice little essay. don't be too wordy. make sure your grammer is as perfect as you get it. make sure you stick to answering the question and don't amble off on unrelated subjects. they are asking you (1) why you chose their school, and (2) why you are chosing nursing as a career. they are mostly assessing you for your writing and ability to make your thoughts clear and your ability to follow instructions. they also want to weed out anyone with what they consider bizarre reasons for going into nursing.
