So I was here a couple months ago, I said I wanted to go to WestCoast for BSN and everyone said its too expensive and waste of money.. And i thought to myself.. that is RIGHT! 132,000+ is alot of money! -- so ehres my solution and i need your FEEDBACK!! I'm thinking of going to LVN school first either Marian College in LA or Perferred College in LA they are right next to eachother if anyone has heard of em.. it cost 23/24,000 -- either or American Career too. All cost the same.. I really wanna be a RN so after wards I'll go back school for RN at a community college or something i heard the programs are 2 years but they'll be doing BSN now? I don't know if thats a waste of MORE money?? Which is better? WCU straight RN or LVN first then RN??? Pls help... Thank You so much guys!!!:D:D

Personally, you are doing roughly the ball park amount of time of completing the LVN degree that you could be doing for the RN degree. Depending on the state, you make more (with more responsibility) as an RN. I went to a 2 yr community college and received my RN and am completing my BSN online. Community colleges are not bad and it helps you jump start your career as a nurse. And once an RN, you might even find an employer that will assist in paying for your BSN.

I don't know much about these schools, but since they are "career" schools you should check if you would be able to transfer to a community college after getting your LVN. Since most of them don't accept it, then you would have to end up getting your RN from another private school and spending more $$.

Personally they all sound like too much money! Like others have said, why go to a "career" school and then to a community college to get your RN, why not go to the community college to get the RN and skip the "career" school.

I am finishing up my RN at a community college and it was around $8,000 total. You definatly need to look at if the classes you take for the LPN would even transfer to the community college, there is a student in my cohort who is a LPN and they did not accept her LPN classes.

Are online courses legit?? I heard some are fake? and its not real diploma/certficate ect.. jobs dont accept them.. I mean, what do you guys think should i bother doing lvn to get to being a rn? since WCU is outta the question right? too expensive? lol.. i live in LA right now.. i know its hard to look for a job, but i wanna get to being a RN..

Well because in LA RN schools are picked outta lottery.. outta luck.. my friend has been waiting 7 months and she hasnt been picked yet.. If im still waiting to be a RN i would think at least i have a LVN on me and find a job ??? if that makes any sense??

...Hi, hoping you guys can help me...I am supposed to start school in August w/ ATS Institute in Highland Heights, Ohio.........I cannot find out if they are accredited!...when I check online, it just gives me a list of schools, but I think it is supposed to tell me it can't find a match which means they are not...........I've emailed admissions twice today, but not getting a reply yet....they are usually very quick at answering my questions....am concerned because I have already taken admission tests & had transcripts sent, fingerprinted, etc etc.........does anyone know???.........thank you so much for your help.....I am getting sick over this..........:eek:

To the OP, $132K is beyond outrageous. I won't even spend that much after getting a doctorate. Never spend that much on an associate's degree. Do any of the community colleges offer the LPN/LVN program? My community college does, it's not covered by financial aid though since it is a certificate and not a degree program. If your goal is to be an RN though, I don't see the point in doing LPN, but if that means you can skip the lottery, then it might not be a bad idea. We don't have the lottery, we have a waitlist, so LPN is a waste for me.

It can be true that career college courses do not transfer. You can still do an LPN/LVN - RN bridge program, it would just mean you would have to re-take some gen ed courses. I have LPN's in my A&P classes who got their LPN through a career college. On a sad note, they are nearly failing A&P and I know one is failing Micro, and I have an A. Makes me wonder....

I did find this : ATS Nursing Programs are approved by the Ohio Board of Nursing. The school is accredited by the Accrediting Council for Independent Colleges and Schools and registered by the Ohio State Board of Career Colleges and Schools.

I also found they have a 56% NCLEX pass rate as of 2009. - On this note, you may want to look around. Just because they are accredited does not mean they are good. There are 2 career colleges by me that are accredited, but they cannot do clinicals in hospitals because they have been banned from there due to horrible experiences.

I just read a good (but very scary) article in Good Housekeeping about these "career colleges" and how they rip off students and leave them with big debt and no legitimate credentials.Be careful.

Have u checked National University? I'm taking the rest of my prerequisites there (san diego), and I will be able to apply in 6 months. It's a program for a BSN, which saves you a lot of time. It costs about $40,000, there's no waiting list. They accept people based on grades, teas test score and essay. I know they have a campus in L.A, but I'm not sure if they have nursing program there.
