Failed the HESI exam again!!!

OK...I've done it again. On the first HESI test I made 895, then I made 869. and now the third time around I made a 779.

I'm at the end of my wits. I studied hardier for the last one and made worst.

There's 13 out of 16 that didn't pass this last time. We started with 26 out of 58 not passing the first time. So now the ones of us left have to take a directive study this semester. I just don't know what else to do. I have studied the Saunders book, HESI book and a few others and done the CDs for all of them.

I think I am becoming dumber with each test I take and definitely becoming more frustrated. If I would of known that I would make it all the way through nursing school, pass all my classes, walk at graduation, only to be stopped by this exit exam...I would of never went into nursing.... I am stuck. At least if I would of failed a class I could of jumped into the LVN program and worked my way up. But I've passed everything, so there's nowhere to go. They won't give us our diplomas until we pass the test. At least if I got that I could become a pharmaceutical rep. But NO, I just have to keep taking this dang test over and over.

Thanks for letting me vent. I'm just wondering if anyone knew someone that has experienced this or if anyone has any suggestions for studying tips. My mind is blown.

I'm new to this so can you tell me what the HESI test is?

The HESI is an exit exam that some schools require for graduation. It's supposed to be a good indicator of how well a student will do on the NCLEX.

Hope that helps.

Hello there!

Please don't feel like you are the only one who is having troubles with the HESI exit exam. I have just taken my 2nd HESI exam and got an 824. Previously, I got a 923 out of the 950 I need to proceed. I have graduated too and I cannot go on to apply for the NCLEX nor can I get a diploma that states I've completed my schooling.

Also, I read the HESI book cover to cover and didn't do so well and it just frustrates me too to know that I've gotten through nursing school to have a test like the HESI tell me I'm not capable enough to go on.

Angie,

I know what you mean. The 13 of us left are frustrated beyond belief.

We had a meeting with the head of the nursing program to find out what we were going to do for our directive study. We made some suggestions as to what may help us. Now we have to wait to see what the teachers can come up with. We're looking at 8 weeks of study when we get started and then we'll take the test again. Each day my attitude gets worst, the only thing that keeps me going is the thought of how much money I have thrown away if I just call it quits.

I am glad that they are trying to help us. I know I have read some schools make you take the last semester over again if you don't pass the HESI after so many tries. If ours does that I'm afraid that is when I will call it quits. My last semester was a nightmare and I definitely do not want to repeat it. We had new teachers teaching and Hurricane Rita came through our town.

I wish you the best of luck!

Oh my God, I'm so glad you said that. I went to an interview today, didn't do so well on a weird test. Well she told me that I couldn't get into the LPN program because I wasn't ready, because I couldn't even pass a lil' test. They hadn't even told me that it was going to be timed. I would've rushed thru it. Well I told her that I don't believe that a test dertermines your capability of succeeding in a LPN program. She respected my opinion. But honestly it was a weird test, really easy too, but I scored lower than a 17 because I didn't know I was being timed so I only answered 13 questions. I've never heard of this test before. They should've told me that I was being timed. :uhoh21:

Is the HESI test like the TEAS test, with Reading, english, math, and sciences. Because I also need to take it. Can I study from the TEAS guide book or do I need to buy the HESI guide book. Also how do they score you what is the score you need to pass.

I've never heard of the TEAS test. Is that a entrance exam test? I know HESI has an entrance test that sounds like that but when we took it, we had already been accepted to the program. It was just to see where we stood in reading, math, and science.

The Hesi also has an exit exam, which really sucks. I do not understand how they can rely on this test to determine your nursing future. I know people who passed the test, that I would not let be my nurse because they are too reckless. The school also says it is suppose to determine if you are going to pass the NCLEX test. I took Kaplan review and it says I am ready to take the NCLEX exam. So go figure....

True, I really don't believe that entrance exams determine how you're going to do in nursing school. I was told by an advisor that not doing well on a entrance exams shows that you are not going to do well in the program, and this school I'm talking about was only a vocational school for LPN. I wanted to laugh in her face, I told I didn't think that way!

The class that just graduated had to take the HESI and according to the instructors, if they got below 850, they wouldn't pass the NCLEX. Out of 50+ students, only 1 or 2 scored above an 850.....

So now on to the NCLEX, the class has now taken the NCLEX and only 1 person has failed the NCLEX but according to HESI, they should've all failed it.

I wish I would of went to that school. I'm assuming they did not have to pass HESI to graduate. Our wonderful school will not give us our diploma or send the paperwork to NCLEX so we could test until we pass HESI. They believe HESI is the greatest indicator that a person will pass NCLEX. So we're all screwed.

I start my directive study Wed and get to take the HESI again in 8 weeks. I am so PO'd at the whole situation, don't know how I will be able to get back into the study mode.
