Fill in the blank with any advice you can give students who have just been accepted into a program or who are thinking about embarking on the journey of nursing school.

Here's mine:

DON'T GO INTO NURSING SCHOOL IF you haven't done your own research about the realities of the profession. Good, bad, truth, and common myths & misconceptions.

Yall's turn!

Well, I guess GrnTea wouldn't have found that in the spirituality section.

Great Gawdamighty!

I do love you guys. Happy New Year!

I think I'm going to drop out of school now that I know I won't be having hot sex with mcdreamy in the on call room and having to deal fromunda or what ever the fancy name for ball sweat was. Guess it wasn't my destiny after all. Hahahaha *sarcasm*

Agreed about work and religion, and the ability of being a great nurse, but how exactly can one separate him/herself from the most deeply held believes? You may also want to check the history of nursing; what was the motivation behind the first nursing orders? What do you mean by a great nurse? technically able? And the comment to begin with is more of a cry than a prayer; the reaction is though very interesting.

When I graduated in 1996, the program director said: "after you pass the NCLEX, you have a license to lear". And I have been learning ever since; what a journey!

Huh? Agree with what? Which comment? What reply was interesting?

-- you are not a team player... Not just among fellow nurses, but the entire health care team.

Also, fromunda is smegma

Don't go to nursing school if you can't accept that life can be horribly unfair.

Don't go if you will subsist entirely on loans and don't truly understand how this will affect your financial future.

Don't go unless you've observed enough nursing care to realize that it can be exhausting, thankless, disgusting, rewarding, and life-changing...all in the same day.

Don't go without a concrete action plan to promote your own health (ex-proper exercise and nutrition, some breaks built in, support, etc).

:roflmao::roflmao::roflmao: I've smelled fumunda the other day from a contracted hand; I had to do a skin check and found a small open area...smelled like  Oh and there is a resident that NEVER showers and is paranoid...her smell went straight to tonsils and trampled all over my throat glands...gagg...

Lmao!!!

Ohh this has been fun to read! :)

One of the comments was that if any of these things describe you, you shouldn't go to nursing school. Now, I'm not in nursing school yet (I'm a fall 2014 applicant), but I just want to say I found one or two things that DO describe me. And others probably did, too. But I feel like being aware of those, and making an effort to improve them, means something! Ex: I'm kind of chronically late, and I'm also over-sensitive. I know it. And I'm working on it. I have been for a while and I'm not there yet, but I've seen improvement and if I keep working hard I should, hopefully and in theory, see more improvement.

So just putting that out there. It's a good reminder, actually, because I know I'm working on improving the right things. Heehee. Thanks for all the info, everyone!
