decision about LPN program

I just received my acceptance letter into the LPN program which starts in October, but now I am unsure if I want to pursue the program. The program is new so I don't know what their pass rate is for the exam. I would like to talk with some of the other students to see how they like the program. The program is also very intense for 10 months. I am very frustruated with my current job in the computer field and I was looking for a quick way out. I really want to pursue the RN program b/c its only 3 days a week versus 5. I don't want to be crammed into being a nurse and I feel the RN program is not as fast paced as the LPN. As I am writing this I realize it would be in my best interest to pursue the RN and hopefully after the first clinical I can work as a nurse tech at the hospital.

Has anyone else been confused about which program to pursue?

I have tried to compare the academics for the programs, but there are no pharmacology courses offered for the RN program. Are they included in the first course for RN?

It seems like you already have your mind made up. Nursing is challenging and rewarding no matter which license you pursue, and nursing school is challenging and intense no matter which program you are in. Basically, this is a simple matter of "Follow Your Heart".

There are many avenues to becoming a nurse, and specifically an RN. I don't think one is necessarily better than another, but one may fit you and your family better. Only you can make that decision. It does sound like you've made up your mind, though. :) Good luck, no matter what you decide!

You could always do the LPN program, and then do an LPN->RN bridge program later, and still be able to work as an LPN while you're doing it.

Yes,

That was my original plan. It seems if I complete Anatomy 1 before the end of the year. I have a good chance of getting in for the RN program next August so the director informed me. I was so frustrated, I just wanted to get started. I am in the process of completing a master's program in computer science and then there is the Anatomy class. I just didn't want to stress myself out. I may still go to the orientation for the LPN or start in January instead of August. I am anxious to get started, but I don't want to over due it.

Pharmacology is probably mixed in the course. We study the different medications used for specific disease processes as we go along. At least that is how it was for the LPN program. I am starting the RN program this fall and I'm not sure how they work it.

good luck

Go for the RN. It pays more and you will be able to advance in the field. But reguardless of the letters attached to the name either LPN and RN both equal caregiver
