Curious. How many "older" students

It seems that alot of people are doing nursing for a second career. Just curious. How old is everyone? Who has kids? Is it a mixed group in the professional part of the nursing program (I am still doing pre-reqs)? Where are you living and what school do you plan on going to. BSN or ADN? What area of nursing do you want to go into?

I am 32, will be 33 in August. I am married with 3 kids. I live in Phoenix and will be going to Arizona State University for my BSN. I am doing the BSN rather than the ADN because I would like to be a CNM. Although I am also interested in ICU too.

Hi, I'm 46 and live in central Kentucky. I am finishing my pre-reqs I am also taking all the classes I can to help me with my BSN. The school I'm attending only offers the ADN. I'm not sure on the area of nursing, considering alot of diff. areas. I just hope I can get into our program since it's extremely hard to get in here. Best of luck to all the oldies and youngins!

I'm 44 and finishing up my last pre-req. I hope to get in an ADN program in the fall at a community college here in Vegas.

Hi,

I am 28, married with 2 kids, 10 & 3...I live in Orlando FL and am currently attending Valencia Community College. I have been working on my prereqs for the last 2 semesters. I am currently applying to Deaconess College of Nursing's Online ADN with PN component. I am planning to start this Fall 2004.

My goal is to pursue my BSN as soon as I finish my ADN. I am also considering joining the Navy as an officer. I have not decided what nursing specialty I am most interested in, but I am leaning towards ICU or Critical Care.

Hi! I am 25 and married but with no kids (gotta wait till I finish school!!!). I am in my second semester of ADN program and hope to transition to BSN after working about a year. To satisfy your curiosity, not one of the 35 students in my 2nd semester class is right out of high school.....I am one of the youngest at 25, and we have 2 students that are in their 50's! We non-traditional students are taking over! LOL!

I'm 31, married with 2 boys, ages 4 and 6. I got my RMA 10 years ago and got the itch to go back. I'm waiting to see where I am on the waiting list, working on pre-req's now :)

I don't like to consider myself "older" but I guess in student circles, I'd qualify. :) I'm 30 and am married, with two kids (6 and 3). I also live in AZ (Prescott) and am attending school at Yavapai College (which I heard has one of the best nursing programs in the country, but I've only heard that from other Yavapai students/faculty, so I'm not sure if that's really true - has anyone outside of AZ heard of it? ).

I am 37 years old. I stayed home to be available for my son who has Tourette's syndrome. I needed to be available for doctor appointments, meetings with people at the school, etc. He is now beginning to be integrated back to a regular high school so I am able now to go to school myself. I finished, as of last semester, my associate in health sciences degree and am hoping to start an ADN program this fall. If I don't get in, then I will probably transfer to the university to continue working towards my bachelor degree while reapplying for the nursing program.

HI. i am 41 years old and i am in my first semester of an ADN program. i have been married for 22 years and my kids are 17, 15, and 13. my oldest will graduate from high school in june and go off to college in august. what an emotional year this will be! :scrying:

I am going to be 29 on the 9th of March. I have 2 kids( 5 and 2). I am in the second semester of an ADN program. I would like to get my BSN after I finish this. I already have a BS in Child Development and Family Realtions. After being out of school since 1997 and being laid off I decided to go back to do something that I really wanted to do, becoming a nurse. Good Luck everyone in your present and future endeavers.

I'm 24, and the single mommy to a 4 year old little girl. :) I'm currently in Washington, but will be moving (courts willing) to Las Vegas in July for UNLV's BSN program. I'll still have 2-3 semesters left of pre reqs (all sciences... I finished off the rest... UGH). It makes me really glad to hear that I won't be in surrounded by a bunch of 18 year olds. Even though I'm fairly close to them in age, my life experiences make them seem SOOO young! :)

Hi Everyone!

I'm 44 and halfway thru my pre-req's for the ADN program at Fresno City College in CA. There is a long list of pre-req's but I am really enjoying the opportunities before me. I will be eligible for the ADN program in Fall 05. FCC's Nursing Program is done by Lottery, so I may have another 2 1/2 years of waiting before I am guaranteed a slot. During any waiting time, I will continue my education towards my BSN. I really want to get into practice as soon as possible. I've waited long enough to fulfill my dream!

I haven't decided which area I want to go into, but it may end up being the ER or ICU as I enjoy the fast decision making pace and the adrenaline flow. I also have the desire for working with preemies..... so I am hoping I get a good rotation during clinicals to help me decide.

Welcome and Good luck in your studies!

HUGS!
