So today has not been a good day. At the clinical placement (community) the CI asked me to do a presentation for the whole organization. This is the last week of this placement and I'm not comfortable with doing this presentations since my project is complete and I have other things to study for. So I told the CI "no because I don't feel comfortable doing it and I dont think I should be doing it alone as decision making and participation should include the group". The CI wasnt happy and insisted that I do it and I finally said "ok it will be done as a group"..I also pointed out to the CI several errors she made and questioned her reasoning..

Im pretty concerned I may not get the credit because of this now. I'd really appreciate some input on this situation

by the way, i go to a small state semi rural school and from what i hear from classmates and graduates..there are complaints about this CI every year

How about the CI that almost (or did she?) failed you during your school nursing rotation?

good statement if the employer asks something which falls within the requirements for the job, so like, if youre an accountant for a restaurant and the employer asks you to start serving dishes, the employer is the one getting fired if theyre not the owner.

I mentioned this earlier and I'll mention it again, just in case you miss it... I guarantee you that your job description will read, "other duties as assigned".. and that is basically saying that they can ask you do anything they want, provided it isn't beyond your scope of practice. One of the things my program has been driving home from the go is that a huge part of a nurses job is education. Education isn't just talking to the patients- it's also putting on presentations and doing other things involved in the hospital/facility you work.

I'm not trying to be mean to you, I'm just trying to impress upon you that you're going into an industry of service.. you are expected to serve your patients, their families, your employers and the community.

wow,i am 50 and would love to argue with my CI about small stuff, life experience in general, but i dont...why...cause she is my instructor, thats it...

when she asks me to do something,or report on something, write on something, i do it...no questions asked,no arguments,nothing....

everyone is happy

If you don't fail out of school, you most certainly will fail as a nurse with that mindset. Here's an example, a patient needs to be cleaned, turned, suctioned, and taken ice. Are you going to say well I'm not the nursing assistant...because "it's their job to clean turn and take ice". I won't suction because that's RT's job. What about a nurse manager, they're a nurse...but are they going to refuse to clean someone, take ice to a family member, etc. because they're not a "bedside nurse". Do yourself a favor, quit while you're halfway ahead, find another career...I'd fail you if I were your teacher. Bottom line, sounds like you're scared to talk in front of people and want the easy way out

And reading your other threads, sounds like you have some maturity issues.

A word of advice from one male nursing student to another is check your attitude at the door!

You may feel like presenting an assignment is trivial; and may also feel that the CI is

acting supercilious. However, you are there for one reason and one reason only. (NEVER FORGET THAT)

When you get hired as a nurse, your nursing manager may request that you make a presentation- will you say no?

You need to realize that although you demonstrate excellent performance in your studies, she doesn't need you.

Your ball is in her court! You ever heard the ole' saying don't bite the hand that feeds you? You can fail clinicals,

and essentially fail the course. Even though this may not be the case, why set your self up to walk on pins and needles.

You need to get like me. Do what's required of you to do, and don't complain. If you have a real bonified issue with an instructor follow the chain-of-command. Knock that chip off your shoulder, don't act like you know it all. A know it all is a dangerous nurse and has the potential to kill people and will make many errors.

Most importantly learn!

lol he most certainly would say no, he'd "fire the employer" remember haha. You sir need to man up. When I was in school, they often singled me out because I was a guy, but not in a bad way. I presented things, showed things, demonstrated things, etc. Felt good being the role model.

Wow, just wow. I can only hope that you are just young.
