Columbia State Community College Fall 2017 (students & advice)

Nursing Students School Programs

Published

I applied to Columbia State's RN program today!! I am hoping to get in and to attend the Franklin, Tn campus! I have completed all of the prerequisites and non-nursing classes. I technically could attend a BSN program if it wasn't for my GPA, 2.81. I am wanting to finish the 4 classes for I need for a BSN program so I can apply for a bridge program in the last months of the program. I am going to go to school all summer and if I have to take statistics during the Fall semester. I am super nervous!! I have their point system in front of me and I only have 5 points (bummer). The lady said they have to be super choosy with their program which added to my nervousness. Anyone else apply to the program? Anyone have any advice?

I applied there and Motlow. From what I have read in the past Columbia state bases their point system off of ACT and A+P grade, plus a bonus point for having a Bachelors degree Is that what you are calculating your points from?

I applied yesterday. The lady told me that usually, they will take the ones with 8 points (if you have a bachelor degree, giving you the 8 points), then the 7s and 6s. Sometimes she said they do go into the 5s and when they do, it is based on GPA as the deciding factor. Best of luck on getting in.

Yeah that's what I have read also. She said they are super choosy when it comes to acceptance, which is completely understandable. Yeah, I have a copy of their selection process paper. I don't have a Bachelor's degree or anything. I am going up tomorrow to give them letters of recommendations, personal letter, and 1 last transcript. I have A's in A&P 1&2 but only have a 19 ACT score, which is 6 years old. I am hoping I can make a good impression and get an interview to explain my 6 year journey to this. Good luck to you guys also!!

We find out in April, right? So just 2 more months of crippling anxiety til we find out! Jk lol good luck OP!

The lady I spoke with told me that they will start sending letters out the last week of March/beginning of April. Not really that far away.

GR88...How many points do you have with their system? Currently, I have 6. Orginally, I took the ACT and scored a 19 so I took it again this month and brought my score up to a 21.

Well I got a 31 composite on the ACT and an A in A+P I, and my cumulative college GPA is a 3.7, and I have a Bachelors. So I have the points I need from what I can tell, I'm just afraid there's something I'm missing! I've been working so hard to get here and been through a lot.. it's hard to believe it's so close.

Last year I missed a small technicality on an app to another school so I had to wait an entire year before I could reapply so I'm traumatized by technicalities lol

Thay sucks due to the error but as long as everything is staright, you should not have any issues getting in.

When I went up there today to turn in my last bits of stuff for my application they told me we should be getting letters around the end of March beginning of April. I am FULL of anxiety lol. With their system I have 5 points. I don't have any previous degree or anything just CNA/Care Partner experience. I added 2 letters of recommendation and a personal letter. FINGERS CROSSED! Only 4 more weeks of waiting!! lol If there is anything missing you should of gotten an email to tell you that your application is incomplete. I forgot to put my transcript for my school I attended for a year. That's why I ran to Columbia today. I met the head of the program also. SUPER awesome and friendly lady! VERY informative.

I applied CSCC and NSCC. I am so so nervous. Where did you guys find the point system? I looked all over their website and all I got was info on how and what to submit but no information on how many points I can get.

Currently I have an A in AP 1, low score on ACT (18) but I took the ACT in 2004 so I don't know if that matters since I have a bachelors already, and my cumulative GPA is 2.8 but I believe by the end of the semester I should have a 3.0.

You can get an idea of the point system for CSCC if you google Columbia State Community College Nursing Points. There are post in other allnurses post where people posted the points but not all of them are correct. Basically, the lady said I got 4 points for API since I got an A with 1 attempt (not sure if a second attempt gives the person 3 points). I got 2 points for the 21 on the ACT (I believe the points are: 20-1, 21-2, 23-3, and 24+ 4). People with a Bachelors get 1 point for that degree.

I also applied at NSCC (currently taking classes there). I got a Proficient on the TEAS (that's the test they require). Proficient is equal to 10 points (20 is the most points in this section). They also calculate your GPA based on Math and Sciences only and you can get up to 40 points in that section. They if you get an interview, you can get up to 40 points based on how well you did your interview.

Hope this helps.
