Before Nursing School

Nursing Students General Students

Hello! I begin my first semester of nursing school this August! I am looking for some advice on what I should brush up on, or just general advice. I am twenty, this is my first time applying, and first time being accepted. I am thrilled, but terrified! Thank you in advance for any input!

Honestly at this point enjoy your free time! Once nursing school begins school will be on you mind almost 24/7. Chances are you may have to do classes during the summer. So enjoy this one while you have the time to! ;)

Specializes in public health, women's health, reproductive health.

This is a common question. I'm sure it was on my mind before I started school. I agree with enjoying yourself, getting rest, and doing the non-nursing school related stuff you love...while you can. ;-)

Totally agree! Do everything you love and be with all your friends and family. Nursing school requires your full attention. Don't worry about brushing up on anything, that comes with the studying. Enjoy your free time, make memories, and have fun! I would also suggest creating a study area. Make it light and soothing but quiet. In my study area i made little inspirational notes to keep me focused. It's best to do all this before to be super prepared. Good luck!!!

I wouldn't worry about brushing up or anything, but I would do whatever you can to be ready as far as your personal life goes. If you need to organize your home, now's the time. If there are projects that you've been meaning to complete, do them now. There really won't be time or energy to do these things during school. Congratulations and have fun!

Specializes in Nasty sammiches and Dilaudid.

I was over 21 y/o so that might affect your plans somewhat, but my pre-NS routine revolved around Scotch, cigars, and good times. Figuring that an ABSN program would be intense (oh, how wrong I was--it was waaaaaaay more than "intense") I gave my brain every chance to relax before going full-bore into 14 1/2 months of non-stop study.

If you absolutely must do something, review anatomy (any and all). Otherwise, enjoy your free time.
