Barnes & Noble member?

Anyone a member of Barnes & Noble? I'm trying to figure out if it's worth it to spend $25 on a membership. We have one close to our school & I guess students go there to study, etc.

I was a B&N member for years. I spend a ton on books. Thankfully, my daughters would rather read than watch TV. It was well worth the $25 member fee. I can drop $100 at one stop there. I love to read too.

During LPN school, I again, spent a ton on "extra" books not required by my school (they provided all the necessary books) that I thought would help me during school.

If you don't plan on spending a lot on books, etc, then no its not worth it but when you spend a bunch of cash on books, it really does make it worth it. But one care plan book can run you $50 or better.

Its not hard to make up that $25 though. If you spend a total of $250 thoughtout the year on books, you've made up that $25 and anything past that $250 is where you get your savings.

I am hard and true Barnes and Noble Member. As a member you can save 10% off the price of the books in addition at times you can save up to 20% off the price or if a member can order them on line. I have saved a large amount of money since I have purchased many nursing text books as well as pocket guides from the store. It is well worth it. :typing

What I've noticed is that it pretty much covers shipping costs if you were going to buy and have books shipped to you individually. I think it more than pays for itself, but I buy a lot of books and videos in a year.

Thanks everyone - I was just wondering if I could get the books cheaper off Craigslist or Ebay. My boys (almost 14 and almost 12) are HUGE readers as well but I generally dont buy from B&N.

I went there the other night with my youngest son as they had a school fundraiser there and I went goo-goo over all the nursing books they had. (Which kind of lead to the post about what do you really need for nursing school) because I dont want to spend $$ on things I don't need.

Guess I'll be getting a B&N card. Looks like you can save 10% on cafe items too. I hate to buy expensive stuff like that when I can make my own coffee LOL but I am almost positive that I'll be there several times a week and that 10% will come in handy.

Yes you can save while spending. I like to do both, drink coffee and buy b ooks. What a great combination. :wink2:

I'm a Borders member. It's free and I still get 20 -30% off of most of my purchases (there's a different coupon every week or so). They also enroll you in their "Perks" program....through that....I saved close to $500 on my laptop.

I just have a problem paying for the pleasure of paying a bit less later on. I figure that they wouldn't be running this program if it lost them money....

Is it worth it? Between the discounts on textbooks compared to my school's bookstore, the discounts on the regular books, and the free two-day shipping if you order online, GOD YES!

I order all of my textbooks through their website--I get the ISBN numbers from the school every time I have a new class, and I find that the textbooks are a lot cheaper through the BN website than if you go to the BN store. I usually save more than the $25 when I'm ordering books for one class, never mind a whole year's worth...and they're new books to boot.

:yeahthat:

definitely worth the $25, I have saved as much as $30.00 on one book, the average is probably 4-15 dollars on a book, definitely worth it.

I joined once but really didn't use my membership enough. I don't live close enough, nor do I buy books enough to make it worth it. I didn't renew.

Specializes in ED.

I order all my text books new from B&N, and with the membership, it usually came out cheaper to get new books from them than to get used books from my school. Definitely worth it in my opinion. It pays for itself in the first purchase if you're buying a semester's worth of books.
