My school switched to ATI and I started taking the practice assessments.

What was your experience with ATI?

I find myself reading these questions and thinking "What?" :banghead:

These tests were just sprung on us so no time to prepare.

Fluid and lytes was in Latin and French...I think. A number of the meds I had no recall and a few of the diseases I was like "huh?"

Is this normal? I mean is this to be expected the first round?

Giggle...one of our professors tells us "call the doc as a last resort. If you are faced with a question that offers contacting the healthcare provider as an option this is usually not the answer." :uhoh21:

Every question I had with "contact the healtcare provider" as an answer I got wrong...:no:

The evening meal provided in a long-term rehabilitation facility consists of pork chops, green beans, and mashed potatoes. The nurse is planning to inquire if any of the clients prefer a substitution for any items on the menu. Clients from which of the following backgrounds are likely to require a substitution. (Check all that apply)

Indian

Chinese

Israeli

Arabic

Puerto Rican

Am I really being tested on this? :uhoh3:

I know, I find ATI a bit tedious and pointless at times. There was a question on our proctored med-surg test that I knew the correct answer that ATI was most likely looking for was outdated and not supported by current evidence based practice. I refused to answer the question incorrectly to get it right and I saw I missed it on my focused review print out. :(

Makes me sooo angry! But I graduate in 2 weeks so thank goodness it's over for me!!

The ATI rep stated these tests are a "tool" ... All I'm getting out of this is I don't know what I should ... feeling a bit inadequate today.

Ok. we also switched to ATI. Keep in mind i am in last semester and have ALWAYS done HESI. We were required to take 17 online practice tests, most of which i did PITIFUL on, before we could take our exit exam. We were all horrified becuase we had to make a 75 to pass exit. If we did not, we had to complete notecards based on what me missed before the second try, two weeks later. If unsuccessful then, we had to complete an online tutorial and could only sit for the third try when the proctor said we were ready, which would probably be after graduation.

There are 18 people in my class. Seven passed it on the first try. All but one passed the second. I passed first try, highest score with an 84. I was disappointed because there was not enough "medical" stuff on it. 75 percent of it was management, and psych. Neither of which i am bad at, but i felt cheated because there wasnt more drugs, diseases or other things i had looked at.

I learned not to go by the practice exams..which were not good at all for me. Let me know how it goes...and good luck!!!

Ugh...

So low scored in the begining are to be expected?

I scored a 74 on my first practice...but it gets worse from there with the individual assessments. I've take 8 so far.

My school uses ATI. It seems like an excellent prep for NCLEX since it is critical thinking-based. After so much ATI studying/tests (some of my classes have had the actual ATI as the final exam), it becomes easier and you start to get used to the style of thinking. I hear ATI is much more difficult than NCLEX.

Arabic--- because of the pork ( Muslim (sp) perhaps?) LOL ok I just had to answer this. However Indian & Israeli can me muslim (sp)as well.

The Israeli may be an Orthodox Jew, hence, no pork. Some Indians are Sikh, who also eat no pork...

I, too, just had to answer;)

I have to put in my two cents-with key word being "likely", I'd definitely choose Arabic. This question is just so ATI-like, with key words being so important. You've got to know about different cultures, and not only have the facts, but use them. Tough stuff, no way around it.

Are they giving you practices? We just had it sprung on us. Personally I loved any of the standardized tests because despite not thinking that they are a true indicator of anything, I happen to test well and they always made me look good. :D

We also just started using ATI. What I have noticed most is that the ATI practice tests we have started doing cover a lot of things we have not yet discussed in class. There are a lot of med-surg type questions and we are still in Fundamentals.

I usually do very well on standardized tests, and have an A average in class, and I totally booted the first practice test:uhoh21:. The second time through I got a 98%, but only because I have a really good memory.
