Are grades in your school shared?

Maybe not by identifying the person, but are the class grades shared with everyone? Our school they are not, for 2 tests in our second semester their was a graph with the average and how many people got what in a 5 or 3 percent region.(I can't remember exactly what the span was but it was under 5) IE: 6 people got 70-75% on the little chart. Their was always one that had 100% though and the number of students was one more then we had. Well a student asked an instructor if the 100% was the Key and apparently the graph wasn't supposed to be up there and they removed it. So out of 1 year and many classes we have never known what the class got except those 2 tests.

I see posts on here though always talking like people know exactly what grade everyone got. So I was curious if grades are shared with everyone or if people are just going off what they have heard.

Sometimes I wish the graph was back up again (I admit for selfish reasons) but at the same time it's not a big deal because at the end of the day it's my grade I am worried about the most. Our teachers feel their is no benefit for grades to be shared so that is why they don't share them.

The program that I failed out of- and never re-applied did that in Fundamentals. And I'm sorry but it was NOT helpful. All it did was stress out people when they saw what the grades were.

My school I'm at now doesn't do that. One of our teachers last semester would come up and say "I liked the grades on this test". Of course on the last one that everyone did lousy on- we did hear what the grades were then :lol2:

I don't get into the "what did you get" after every test. My grades are just that- MY GRADES. As long as I'm passing and doing what needs to be done, I really don't care what the other 99% of the class is doing (except when we start losing people).

I'm also the first person to say that the "co-op" testing- you know when you get into groups and go over every question on the test for extra points- is NOT helpful to me :lol2: Many times I've just seen drawn-out arguments over why someone put what they did, and why THEIR answer is right and yours is wrong (and then you get looked at when your answer was right and theirs was wrong)

I kind of wish I didn't have to do it at all.

But 2 points are 2 points- especially when on that test you're straddling between a pass and a fail. So I do it- grudgingly

The instructors don't share grades with the class, but some of us share with each other. I'm usually pretty vague with people and will only say, "I did ok." That usually satisfies people. A group of us friends always share our grades, though. I guess it depends on who asks me!!

I share my grades with a friend of mine who generally gets the same grades as I do. In fact, on three consecutive tests, we got the EXACT same grade. :lol2:

She and I do that because if one of us does worse than we usually do, we want to estimate if the test was more difficult (we both got lower than normal grades) or if one of us just didn't study correctly (one of us is in the normal range and the other one scored lower than normal) Yep...every time I've had a lower-than-normal grade, she did too!

ETA: We had one teacher who showed us the breakdown. Another teacher gives only the scores in the "A" category--at most, there were three As in a class of 35.

Our grades are posted on blackboard. You can only see YOUR grade and the AVG of the class. Like others have said, I share my score with my friends and that is it.

Ours are on Angel, so we also only see our grade and the class average.

I have never heard of Co-Op testing or anything like what you described about it. Very interesting.

I share my grades with my close circle of friends, we all do together and if one of us starts slipping the others are right their to encourage and try to help. It's nice. But we also have people that you never hear from until a test comes and then they are all about "what did you get":rolleyes:

We had blackboard to, although it's now switched to something called Desire2learn and this is where are grades are posted as well. That is where for 2 tests it had the little graph with the averages (nothing identifying anyone). But like I said, they took that off and now it's all switched over to this new program.

I have seen so many posts saying how everyone in the class failed, or I got the best grade in the class and what not so I just wondered how everyone knew what everyone else got. Wasn't sure if my school was in the minority with not posting everyone's (in whatever form).

The grade distribution in our class is shared, but no individual grades. That's fine with me.

Co-op testing in a nutshell (both programs I was in do this).

You take the test. When time is called, and the test is over, everyone goes back into the classroom. We break up into groups of 4-5 (and our groups are made at the beginning of the semester by the teacher). We get a test and a scantron. And we have 30 minutes total for our group to go over the test. On some questions we all agree immediatly. On some, there can be heated arguments.

After 30 minutes everyone passes in their test and scantron. If you get an "A" on the group retake- it's 2 points extra. A "B" gives you 1 point A "C" gives you no points.

I guess it's so that you go over the questions and try to understand what you got wrong and why. It's just that if it's a really hard test, all I do is stress over how many questions I got wrong.

Both schools I have attended did this.

At my school we only get our own grade, no class average or anything. I would like to know at least the class average so I could see if I was better, worse, or right in line. Maybe that's bad because it sets you up for competition and worrying about what everyone else is doing, but I'd be curious to know at least the average.

We get our grades online and for most classes we see our grade and "class statistics" which includes highest grade, lowest grade, and distribution of how many grades between 60-70, 70-80, 80-90, and 90-100
