Anyone else feel dirty after Microbiology lab? - Page 3

    Sheeeeesh. I bet the average Micro lab is cleaner that most public places. The thing is, you can't see all the creapy crawlies all around us. I think it's kind of like the 'bullet you don't hear'. If micro lab creeped you out, don't go into a hospital! LOL

    Micro has made me VERY Germ-Conscious...drives my wife nuts though...I am now huge on disinfection.

    I loved micro and it didn't really worry me too much about the germs. Try not to spill and wash hands and life should be okay. Our instructor did talk about a student who had spilled something onto her purse. Apparently some of her make-up was contaminated and she didn't think about it before applying. She ended up with an infection on her face.

    Clinicals make me want to jump into a vat of sanitizer. The germs aren't contained in little vials--they are there to jump all over you.

    I volunteer in the ED of a Level 1 Trauma Center. lol. But I do use my sanitizing lotion quite a bit.

    OMG!! I did a gram stain and made sure my microbe was in the middle of the slide. When I put it under the microscope I couldn't find it. Professor came and found it on the very edge of the slide!! HOW DID IT GET THERE???

    Micro did turn me into a germaphobe :-X I wash my hands SO much more now, and touching stuff freaks me out more, but I've only been sick MAYBE three times since I took the class in 2008! I loved the class, especially the labs - even if we did work with SA and E coli A LOT! haha

    Keep disinfectant spray and wipes in your book bag or car. I used to spray my butt, shoes, book bag, and books down before I would get into my car after class was over and then I would use the wipes for my hands.

    I had once started buying a head of lettuce because it's cheaper...well I took it all apart to wash it and there was a bunch of little dead bugs buried down inside the bottom of the lettuce. It grossed me out of course and I threw it all away. I guess I'd rather eat what I can't see, so I'll continue buying the bags, lol.

    LOL..wait until you get to clinicals and the germs aren't contained in nice little petri dishes!!
