I am starting nursing school in May. As a new student, I have to purchase a stethoscope. I would like to get the Littmann Master Cardiology. But, I've been told that stethoscopes often "grow legs." So, I was thinking about getting the Littmann Classic II S.E. Hopefully, I'll get the master cardiology for a graduation present :) What type of stethoscope does everyone have? Do you have any recommendations?

I bought a 3m Littman stethoscope - you can even get your name engraved so it doesn't decide to "run away".

You have to be careful of the cardiology littmann's.. at least the single head stethoscopes.. our professors would not allow anyone to use these since it takes a certain amount of pressure to use the bell and diaphragm.. I got a cheapie when I ordered my scrubs (my school sold a package with everything) but since it was not a very good one I got a classic II s.e. It's awesome. I found the best deal for littmann's through medisave.com (it includes the engraving)

Everyone rants and raves about their littmans ... But I love my prestige! And they come with a nice pedi sized bell and diaphragm :)

I love my Littmann Classic II S.E. Of course everyone is different. If you know people that have their own, they may let you try them out to see if you like it. You could also buy a cheap one and use that for the first week or so while trying out different ones in class. Just an idea.

I love my Littmann Classic IISE also.

"This is my stethoscope. There are many like it but this one is mine...."

Thanks for your suggestions.

Faybyrd - I'm open to buying a Prestige. I have just heard more about the Littmanns.

I have a Littmann Classic II SE also and got it from Medisave and got it engraved with my name...I love it!

I love my Littman Classic II. You may as well invest in a good one as opposed to the cheaper ones they sell at the scrub shops. You will be using it throughout school and your career. but do get your name on it =]

That is what I am using, in a different color. It has worked out greatly so far! Also the reviews on this one are really good, $30ish depending on the color.

I'm partial to the Littmann Cardiology III, but I'm sure it's overkill for most nurses. The Master is cool too but way too expensive and heavy considering I've seen a fair share of cardiologists who don't even use them. Heck, a lot of MDs and DOs only use Classic IIs.
