Aack, I failed the exit Hest

How in the world did I fail this thing? I did the case studies and made 85%, I did well on all the other HESI's given, I have a 3.5 GPA and I managed to fail the exit test. Whats worse is I have a job interview for a labor and delivery internship that starts early January and I have to tell them I don't have my GN because I failed. I can't retake this test until January 18th. This stinks, does anybody have any advice on how to study for this?

I am so sorry to hear that you did not pass the HESI. What is the policy for retaking it?

Hang in there.

The majority of students in my class are in the same predicament as you. Fortunately, I passed. I knew my weak areas (peds, OB) and concentrated on them. I used Saunders NCLEX Review as my resource. Since you have a printout on your weak spots from your first attempt, start by concentrating your efforts there. Fundamentals seemed to be the weakness for most of our class.

Good luck on your next attempt.

I have heard two different things on the retakes. The first is that we can take it up to three times and if we still fail, they will look at the case studies we have done and our overall percentage on them to determine whether to let us graduate. The second, is we have two times to take it. If we don't pass the second time, we have to take a on line course from Hesi.

I think I was distracted the day of the test and in too much of a hurry. I made some silly mistakes. My hardest areas are pharmacology and med/surg. OB/Pedi are my best areas which are covered the least. I think I am going to go ahead and get the Hesi review book and start studying. I have a NCLEX book also, but it is Sandra Smith. I don't know how good it is, but I will study from that also:)

Thanks for the replies

I am very sorry. We have 10 people in my class who failed. We are still allowing them to attend our pinning ceremony despite what some instructors think.

I barely passed the exit Hesi. I have done well in my classes, and we also do a Hesi test after each course at the end of the semester...and I've done well on those.

I made an 874, we needed an 850. I would just look at your score, and what area you did really poor on and focus on that. I too have the book, and do the case studies online(so does everyone in my class). I think a lot of it is anxiety. I wish you the best of luck.

I am sorry to hear this I will have to take a hesi exit in may. We only get one time to take it and if we don't pass that time we are not elgible until the Aug. graduation to graduate.

Are the case studies free or do you get those when you order the study guide?

We got the case studies free through the school. Although, I'm sure we paid for it at some point in time:) I also found out that the school offers a review course to prepare for the HESI. I'm trying to get into that if they can squeeze me in. I'm keeping my fingers crossed:rolleyes: .

I know for me, I relied way too much on the case studies because that was the recommended thing to do. If I could do it again, I would of gone back through each subject and studied the highlights, main terms, and nursing interventions, especially priority setting. That would of helped much more in my opinion. Another thing that didn't help was me taking my last final which was in critical care on Thursday and then taking my HESI the next morning. I just couldn't juggle studying for the HESI and the final with the amount of time I had. If you can, scheduling your HESI a couple days away from your last final might help?

The good news for me is that this won't effect my internship. I spoke to the hospital yesterday and they said as long as I take my NCLEX as soon as possible after the HESI, it shouldn't be a problem. I was sooo relieved because this is a labor and delivery internship which is something I have wanted to do since I started nursing.

Hope this helps

We paid 37.00 twice at my school and never got case studies or even a print out of our strengths and weaknesses. They printed it but said we could not have a copy but could read it there. I think I am going to buy the hesi study guide b/c we only get one chance to pass in order to grad. in May. I defintely don't want to wait til Aug. to grad.

What about the Hesi CD with practice tests? Any one have an opinion on their benefit? Thanks

I am using the both HESI review book and the practice test CD to study for the comprehensive exam in February. So far, I think they are useful, but we'll see what I think after I get my actual score ;).

Question...what are these HESI tests exactly?? Do all schools have them? I haven't heard one peep about one at my school. Sounds rough if you have to take them after each course...

Thanks!
