I am writing this because I am inspired by my recent experience on the other side of the curtain.

I had the chance to be a patient recently. When I was terrified beyond belief or in severe pain, there was always someone there. My nurse's, Tech's were a commited group of professionals that made me feel at home and cared for. Every nurse was well educated, informative and most of all supportive of me. I never felt rushed or like an object or room number.

I was a patient at the same facility I work at. Each staff member who cared for me knew their stuff and were the most amazing people i have met. My facility is an Adventist Christian hospital...though I am not overly religious, It was fantastic to be able to have someone pray for me and with me before and after my surgery.

I want to thank all those out there who make a difference in patients lives.

Sometimes its the little things that got me by - The jokes the CNA made, The smile and pleasant greetings from the nurses, the gum i was dying to have (even though I was NPO).

I myself as a nurse forget the impact we have on our patients. We all make the difference.

Thank you to all with my journey.

I am so glad you had such a positive experience in your facility. It does make you look at the facility itself and your coworkers ENTIRELY differently when you're on the other end!

I've had surgeries in other facilities (one being in a major city with a renowned surgeon) and had an awful experience.

As far as my own facility, my mom was a patient a few months ago for a *surprise* surgery (as in, to the ER, admitted, then to the OR) and my staff was AMAZING. I stayed the night with her to help with the basics (walking, getting in and out of bed, fetching drinks, etc) but they were so great. It made me appreciate them all the more.

Hope you're back on your feet soon!
