I am interested in writing articles for nursing journals. Mostly for journals like Nursing 2008, Nursing Made Incredibly Easy, RN, etc. I wouldn't be writing articles based on research studies that I have done. However, they would be articles written based upon research. Has anyone ever written nursing journal articles? Any ideas on how to get started? Thanks.

I have never written a journal article, however, I just finished a nursing research class. From what I understand, each journal will have their own criteria and requirements for a journal article to be published. Some are incredibly selective and incredibly competitive. Some only publish research articles from established professionals with credentials to back them up.

But there are other journals that will publish articles from "amateur" researchers. I think the best way to find out is to contact the specific journal you are wanting to publish in and find out what type of requirements they require to publish an article.

And the process usually consists of you sending a copy of the research piece, them reviewing it and sending it back and asking for changes. Some require peer reviews. My professor told me it took her almost 2 years to get a research article published in a journal -- however, it was a "prestigious" journal.

Several of the journals have contact info to obtain the rules and suggestions for articles. Take a look at the fine print stuff.
