Writing a Paper on LPN

Nurses General Nursing

I am going to Ivy Tech and hoping to get into the nursing program. I am still taking my general classes right now. I have to write a paper on the career I am pursuing. I need a little help on where nurses work other than hospitals and nursing homes and doctor's offices. I am having a hard time searching for it on search engines. I also am wondering if anyone could tell me some of their duties in a nursing home. My paper is on LPN work. Any help will be much appreciated. Thank You!!

You shuld have a quick read of the LPN thread. You should find lots of material there.

I'm an LPN and work both hospice and LTC (nursing home).

At the LTC I pass meds, do wound care, monitor glucose levels, help some of the residents with their meals, supervise my CNA's, deal with families and doctors, and just about anything else that comes up during my shift.

At my hospice job I make regular scheduled visits to my patients in their homes, monitor vitals and pain management, teach, teach, and then teach some more. I usually report to my DON instead of the doctor because I only work 2 mornings a week. Occasionally I'll take call on the weekend.

I am a LPN and I work in home health care. I work 8 hour shifts in a patient's home doing total care. Basically my day or evening consists of feeding, bathing, dressing, tidying the room, getting the patient oob into the wheelchair, going to appointments with the patient, administering medications, and performing skilled care such as wound or trach care. I currently have 2 patients; a man with muscular dystrophy who is on a ventilator and a man who has quadriplegia & a trach due to a motorcycle accident.

This type of home health care is different from "visiting nurse" care. It is usually permanent and patients have anywhere from 4-24 hour daily care.

Hope this helps, best of luck to you! :specs:
