Working as a stripper AND a nurse

Nurses General Nursing

Published

Hello everyone. I was wondering, is it detrimental to my job as an RN if I am also stripping on the side for additional money? Can I be fired for this? I know there are morality issues (for some) and such with this, but is it legally wrong? I live in southern California by the way. The salary as I make as a stripper is far greater than any nursing job out there. The reason I'm also working as a nurse is for the benefits, retirement, and job security when I'm older and can no longer strip.

I say if it doesn't interfere with your nursing position and you can't get in trouble with the BON then do what makes you happy. I'm not going to judge you as it is not my position to do so. You have to do what you think is best for you and not worry about who thinks this or that. At the end of the day if you can look in the mirror and be happy with the person you see then that is really all you need:twocents:

THanks for for the replies everyone. I looked at the paperwork I got with my RN job and all it says is I'm allowed to have outside employment as long as it doesn't interfere with my job as an RN. Like I said earlier, the amount of money I make compared to an RN just isn't comparible. In a couple of hours I make 1-2 (sometimes 3) days of salary as an RN.

a nurse can have his/her license revoked or suspended if he/she commits a misdemeanor involving moral turpitude.

public sexual indecency

an allegation of public sexual indecency occurs when one intentionally or knowingly, in the presence of another that would reasonably be offended or alarmed by the act, engages in an act of sexual contact, oral sexual contact, sexual intercourse, or sexual contact between him/herself and an animal. if the offended person is a minor under the age of 15 years, the crime is charged as a class 5 felony. otherwise, this crime is a class 1 misdemeanor. a.r.s. 13-1403.

i agree but "public indecency" that has a legal statute against it..is legal crime...can carry a conviction, like a dui, or drug possession, forgery, assault and battery, theft, prostitution (unless you live in nevada...even there, you have to have a license), child molestation, etc.

correct me if i am wrong...but i thought the topic was if she could possibly lose her license with the bon for stripping, which is a legal activity.

the statue that you have listed refers to people who expose themselves in public (think flashers), have sex in a public place, masterbate ina public place.

a strip club is not a public place. they control who gets in and out and you know when you get in there, you are going to see someone that is topless and/or nude.

I don't know if anyone remembers this story or not.

There was a woman that was the main receptionist for a high-end law firm in Manhattan that had many, many partners..and the legal profession, as we know, is a male dominated field.

She sent some pictures to Playboy magazine. They flew her out and did a photo shoot with her, and put her in the magazine.

When the pictures hit the newsstand, word got around very quickly that it was their receptionist...You know what they did? They FIRED her.

You know why? They fired her because the managing partners said that there was so much "talk" in the firm about her photo shoot, that they were afraid she would be the victim of sexual harrassment...they felt she put herself at risk, and they said that for HER OWN protection...they terminated her. Even though she had not made any complaints of sexual harassment.

In other words...they squashed the problem before it got started.

She sued...and lost.

the real question is what does your state BON define as "unprofessional conduct"? Better ask them.

This thread just let me to say OMG! LOOOOOOOL

Stripper... looool...is a job! NOC defined???? Call BON from your state!

For me as soon as you are a good nurse... you could be whatever you want, if you don't undress your self in the middle of the nursing floor, looool

Ethical dilema... what is much more wrong... to be a stripper and work open or to play dirty surviving games and nobody know about it????

Legally... talk with your BON and ask them?

Who cares what you do on your own personal time? I don't.l As long as you come into work, do your job to the best of your ability, .......it's nobody's business. I have a few close friend that were exotic dancer while going to school. So what? It didn't bother me a bit. They were just trying to make ends meet. It didn't make them a bad person. Just a hard worker. Rock on sister!!!!!!:smokin:

Hmm... do you really like having two part time jobs: one that you don't like but only want for benefits and the other that is not really suited for an educated person but pays well? Maybe you should just find a job that you enjoy and that has benefits...

It all boils down to freedom of expression. If you want to get techincal about it. As long as the person maintains her professionalism at the work place, it shouldn't matter. Forgive me, but, I deal with all kinds of degenrates at my workplace. And I have to deal with them even though their rude behavior doesn't deserve it. SO.....why the double standard? You have a person, that comes in , does theri job.......why would you try to persecute them for something they do on their own "PERSONAL" time? It's nobody's business what this person does outside of work.

About 5 years ago, a husband and wife RNs got fired from my hospital because they posted nude pictures of the wife on the internet.

I can appreciate that a person would work as a stripper to make extra cash. Unfortunately, many nurses have taken on other jobs over and above nursing because their wages in Nursing was so pathetic.

Being a Male Nurse I'll state this. I see so many of my fellow co-workers and colleagues abused, sexually harassed, exploited and being used as scapegoats being nurses, that I wouldn't want to see any of them extend that level of abuse by being a stripper. Though many of them have jokingly said that they would probably be treated better being a stripper than being a nurse. Just my two cents.

Yes if your hospital found out it could easily be detrimental to your job. Despite the fact that stripping is completely legal. To avoid a suit the hospital would only need to find 1 minor infraction or error and cite that as the 'reason' for the dismissal.

It's naive to think that "it's a free country and I can do whatever I want on MY free time." From my experience that's NOT always true if you hold a professional license. SADLY we are often held to a different standard than other employees.

There was a teacher recently in the news who lost her job when photos of her at a wet t-shirt contest in Cancun were sent to the school's admin. She was on her 'free' time and there was nothing remotely illegal about what she did. She sued the school board for her job and back pay but lost.

If you need the fast cash/tip money from stripping then tell no one in the hospital of this other job....I kinda like the idea another poster had...wear a mask when you strip.
