Nurses General Nursing

Hey everyone! I plan on starting nursing school in 05 (hubby is in navy and we are moving a lot right now). My dh is a physician who is going to specialize in Emergency Medicine. I thought I might like to do that but since joining this board I realize that there are so many different areas to specialize in. So my question is what is your specialty and what do you like or dislike about it?

Specializes in Med-Surg, Trauma, Ortho, Neuro, Cardiac.
Med/Surg victim here...seems of late my 'specialty' is trying to keep geri-psych pts from climbing out of bed and listening to family gripe when I don't have more than 2 hands.......sorry, bad day ;)

Hugs....that is definately a specialty in my eyes. :)

Med-Surg nurse here as well, currently doing medical-telemetry/medical. I've done neuro-med surg and neuro-intermediate as well, and trauma-med surg.

Med-surg is where it's at for me right now. It takes instinct, excellent assessment skills, and the patients are really really sick. I've got my certification in med-surg!

Wow.. Never realized there were so many Ortho fans out there... Most people in our hospital hate getting pulled to Ortho.. B/C it is constantly going, and some people get upset when they actually have to work

Specializes in ccu cardiovascular.

cardiac nursing since 7 years ago, now to work in a openheart cardiac unit starting next week.

NICU nurse here. The only part I don't like about NICU, is when I get floated to Peds. Not having my patients in my sight unnerves me somewhat.

Nurse Pracitioner.

Family Practice, specializing in Pain Management and Acute/Inpatient Care.
