What should I wear to hospital interviews?

Since I've never done this before, I'm hoping for a little guidance on what to wear to hospital interviews. It's already really hot here, so I'd prefer not to wear a jacket if I don't have to.

Would long skirts and blouses be too casual? Would pants a dress shirt be OK? Capris? My city is generally more casual than most, but I don't want to show up in capris and a cute blouse and look like I'm picking my kids up from soccer practice, you know?

Thanks in advance for tips - today is my shopping day.

you don't have to wear a jacket, just look professional, neat, well groomed and I think business casual is good.

Heck I don't like the jacket thing either....but I was taught women wear business atire...dress/skirt w/jacket. Hair up if its long enough, hose, and close toed shoes....w/a consertive heel.

There are articles on both sites on how to dress for interviews. Take a few minutes to read some of the advice in them. As a previous poster said, casual business will be fine. You should anticipate that you might be taken on a tour of one or more of the hospital nursing units so wear shoes that are comfortable to walk in.

I think most nurses don't dress to impress on interviews, but they should. If you don't look like you really want the job, then how much faith will the interviewer have in your success there? I don't like dressing up, but on the interview, I make sure I look like I could run that place!

I've worked in the Deep South before -- where it gets really hot and everyone understands that. A nice blouse and skirt (or slacks) would be fine for a staff nurse position. For leadership positions, the "dress code" is a little more formal.

Thanks to you all for taking the time to reply. My plan is common sense, closed toe, comfortable shoes, probably pants, no skirts that I could get a gyn exam in, and hair up. Hope it's a good shopping day!
