What makes you like your specialty?

I work in a very busy ER and love it because of the diversity we see and the pace of the environment. Best described as a controlled chaos with various acuity and conditions... Never a dull moment and everything is stat. The only time it isn't enjoyable is when we're holding admits and the waiting room backs up, then everyone gets grumpy.

What I like about the ER is that even if we see the same person every day we get rid of them at some point during the day.

Work peds ED. Love it. For pretty much the same reason as others love the ED, the variety the pace, the controlled chaos.

Get to do a lot of education to new parents. Most of my patients are fairly healthy.

Most of my parents truly want what's best for their child and even if they are there for the sniffles the patents usually are receptive to teaching. Love working with first time parents

Kids are not drug seeking......attention seeking maybe, but we have stickers, bubbles, coloring sheets and fish crackers

There is a fair amount of drama with our adolescent psych population.

Kids do not code as frequently as adults.

Work aeromedical, oddly enough what I like and dislike is the same thing, the possibility of every call being the last thing I ever do.....

OR. My patients are asleep for the vast majority of our time together, family interaction is very limited, no call bells, sometimes we can immediately see the good we do (stabilized trauma patient, full excision of a tumor with negative lymph nodes, EKG changes that correct themselves once the blocked coronary is bypassed), and I work with a great team who has everyone's backs and helps as much as possible.

When I was a home health case manager I loved the productive and engaging interactions with patients and their families/caregivers, regularly witnessing progress, collaboration with everyone involved. making things happen, autonomy, getting outdoors, understanding my patients' history through pictures on the walls, seeing the beautiful eyes things they've made, taking firm stands and being backed up when necessary..

Med-Surg. I love the variety of patients I see, my group may include a patient who is 20 with pancreatitis and another who is 98 on hospice all in the same day. I've learned a lot about many different conditions and developed really good time management skills. I just wish I had more time during the day to spend on patient teaching or to sit with a patient who just needs to talk.

peds....my patients are innocent, vulnerable, so I feel rewarded to care for them. Plus they are super cute, and MOST won't break ur back if they are total care.
