Nurses General Nursing

hello I am obtaining my LPN license in a couple months and I wanted to know what would be a great environment to work in as far as pay especially. I really would like to work in the NICU, but I'm not sure. I would really like some feedback. Thanks.

Hi! Most ICU's, including NICU's are RN only staffed. You could work normal newborn nursery though or peds :) Good Luck :) :)

chances are depending on your area, that nicu would probably be unobtainable at this time. Ususally though once you get your foot in the door and get some experience you can move to another area of expertise. I recommend starting med/surg first to get some very valuable experience it then makes everything else fall into place when you go into a specialty area. Also even if you aren't required by you hosp. take classes such as ACLS, PALS, etc this will also broaden your horizens and lets managers know how serious you are about nursing.

I agree with the rest. LPNS are usually not part of staffing of a nursery, L&D, or NICU..but pediatrics is a possiblity, and possibly a mother/baby unit.

A lot of the LPN's I know work in clinics....Pediatrics, OB-GYN, GI, etc. Some work on the general med-surg floor. I work in NICU and L&D and at this time these areas do not staff with LPN's.

If NICU is your goal eventually, maybe you could start on the Peds floor or in a Peds clinic, and if you're interested, work on your RN, then you could move into the critical care areas.

Good Luck and Congratulations! :balloons:
