Medications That Should Not Be Crushed Due to Fragility: Mirtazapine (Remeron SolTab®) and olanzapine (Zyprexa Zydis®)[/h]

Not all of these come in rapid dissolve form and sometimes has to be given to pts with g-tube when the rapid dissolve form is not available. So, what is fragility? Or why these should not be crushed? Zyprexa I had to give through gtube was NOT enteric coated, or sustained release.

fragile means easily broken apart. both of those drugs above are the rapid dissolving forms of these drug.

remeron soltab orally disintegrating tablets remeron, remeron soltab (mirtazapine) drug side effects, interactions, and medication information on emedicinehealth.

Exactly. Regular remeron and zyprexa are ok to crush; but not these forms.

Glad you are checking your meds before you give as the form does matter. Just because it can be crushed does not mean it should be crushed. Had a nurse giving metformin thru g-tube even tho we have list of do-not-crush in med room. Her defense was the pt was diabetic and it was give it or let her BS go up. NO!! Call MD for another med. duh
