titers/ immunizations update

I went to the doctor last week for immunizations for school. Since I had no records, I wasn't sure if she'd do titers first to check immunity, go ahead and give me shots, etc. Well......I received the MMRV and the Tdap (which was needed because my tetorifice was l-o-n-g overdue) and THEN she sends me to the lab for titers for MMRV. But I had just gotten the vaccine 15 minutes before so what would it matter if I was immune or not? In today's mail I received my titer results for the MMRV and I show immunity for everything. Does that mean the vaccines weren't necessary? I'm assuming they wouldn't "kick in" that quickly...or would they? No big deal either way...just curious!

I am in the same boat. I had to get titers/immunizations and I didn't have a record of anything either. But they drew titers first and it turned out I didn't need any immunizations... I don't know why they would have done both for you like that?

I have no idea why she didn't do the titers FIRST and then call me if I need to come in. Oh well...there's no question that I am immune now! :-)

My doc did titers and then re-vaccinated as necessary. Did you try asking your doc? Perhaps there is a reason for her actions? Doubt it, but you never know.

If you had the vaccines, your best bet is to get a titer done. More than likely, your body is full of antibodies. If you have the antibodies, the vaccines are NOT necessary, unless they are way overdue. :up:

Could it have been a booster that she gave you and then did the titers to make sure you didn't need anymore - is the mmrv normally a series?

The last time I was vaccinated for anything would have been 35+ years ago so I guess boosters were in order anyway. :D
