Titers for Hep B negative...a second time!

Nurses General Nursing

Published

I posted a while back (last year?) that my titers from my Hep B series from about 6-8yrs ago were negative. I went through the entire series again. Had a titer done last week...and it's NEGATIVE again! The nurse ended up giving me a shot to act as a "booster" and will test me later to see if they will need to try the series again.

I'm assuming I may be one of those people who don't get immunity, which sorta stinks.

Also what sort of autoimmune disorders? I've actually never heard this so going to have to do some research.

Understand that titers have a number, not a "negative" or a "positive". What is considered "immunity" is set by your facility.

What is considered an effective titer is highly disputable in the literature. Many doctors will tell you that if you register anything at all...that means you have immunity..your body has no need to act until you have been exposed.

I repeated the series and took the boosters and I told them that was it. I have an auto-immune disorder and that may or may not have something to do with it.

I can assure you I don't sit here and worry about it.

Oh yes I know they have a number. If I remember correctly, mine is "undetectable" it's such a low number.
