Tidewater Community College Spring 2017

Nursing Students School Programs

Hey everyone! I'm turning in my application this July for the spring 2017 start! I'm so excited! However I will have one class in progress (microbiology) and was wondering if anyone knows if this will hurt my chances of getting accepted. I'm going to take my HESI mid June so I don't have that score yet! Any help or advice is appreciated!

It honestly depends on your other grades, your current GPA, and what you get on the HESI. I tried applying in the past while missing a class or two and did not get in. I had all my classes for the last application deadline and I'm going to be starting in October!

Everything will be A's and B's with micro left to take. I haven't taken my Hesi yet, I'm still preparing for that while taking 141 to get a better grade. My husband is military and we leave in a certain amount of time so I would like to start January if possible!

I too had all A's and B's, my HESI score was an 84%

When you first applied or when you got accepted? What classes did you need to complete still when you first applied?

This is when I recently applied. Before having all my classes under my belt I still needed A&P 2 and I had a lower HESI score of 77% and didn't make it in.

Any tips for the Hesi?

I would invest in a HESI practice book in order to study, get plenty of rest, and lots of caffeine before you go. The length of it is daunting, don't spend too much time on questions you're trying to figure out. Instead answer all that you know and then go back to work on the ones you had trouble with. It's easy to run out of time!

I bought a hesi book but I'm nervous about the chemistry portion cause we don't have to take chemistry so I didnt take it. I'm so nervous! Was the teSt pretty har

Yeah, I hadn't took chemistry before taking the HESI either other than in high school however many years ago and that was an area where I scored lowest in. I just completed health science chemistry to work towards my bachelor's and I wish I would have taken it before taking the HESI but you're right, you're not required to. I was totally nervous the first time around since I didn't know what to expect, the second time wasn't too bad since I was prepared. I would have to say that the overall test is fairly difficult, it is a lot of material to be tested on at one time. If you apply yourself, you should do fine even without chemistry.

I just hate you have to wait a year to take the test again if you don't do well the first time. That's insane. What are you required to get on the hesi?

I'm not so sure you would like to take that test but once a year if you had to, it is that dreadfully long. No worries you will do fine as long as you know general knowledge of the basic subjects. They say the minimum you can get on it is a 45 to be considered but you obviously wouldn't be competitive with that score.
