South University online

Nursing Students Online Learning

Published

Hello everyone,

Wondering if any one has attended or is currently attending South University online. I am one week shy of finishing my BSN courses and will be starting the MSN courses the following week. I am doing the RN to FNP program and am feeling really nervous. Any insight, good or bad. Thanks in advance for your comments.

OP When I saw your post regarding South online I almost fainted. You must know the following facts:

1. South is in dire financial straights due to its parent company Educational Management Corporation becoming more and more financially insolvent by the day.

2. South online has a graduation rate of 10% (collegescorecard.edu.gov)

3. Education Management Corporation paid a fine in November 2015 of 95.5 million dollars and forgave 102 million dollars in student loans after being sued by the Departmrnt of Justice for 11billion dollars in false claims in recriuting students.

4. South University has no substantive connections in the preceptorship community to help you obtain the five that you will need. This is a major problem and red light they hide and won't tell you about unless you ask and than by then it's too late.

5.South will require you to sign an arbitration agreement as a condition of enrollment which effectively nullifies your right to sue them and be heard by a jury of your peers when you find out you have been deceived and over promised by them. This is another red light as no reputable schools require the arbitration agreement.

South is very expensive relative to other schools with good reputations in the community.

6. South is a non-competitive program with a very high attrition rate.

7.South has extremly low gainful employment scores.

8. South does not require a preadmission interview as a fail-safe to weed out the immatue, unprofessional and unqualfied candidates.

9. South (EDMC) is a for-profit mess that delisted from the Nasdaq stock exchange in 2014 when it was aquired by Goldman Sachs and KKR two Wall Street concerns that could care less about nursing education only the quickest b-line to your student loan funds.

10. All the above information is readily available on the net and the school should inform prospective students about their financial and other problems but they continue to be deceptive and lure in those who don't do their due diligence and know how to ask the appropriate question.

11. The sad part of this story is that they are actually accredited by nursing's leading accrediting agency but the facts surrouding this schhol's poor quailty prove that accredation is a neglegable indicator of overall quality.

12. Be careful with this school. They are nothing if not about recruiting numbers and obtaining endless supplies of warm bodies.

I am on no one's payroll and I would recommend this school if I could but its terrible reputation of leaving students high and dry without a degree and tens of thousands of dollars in debt precludes me from doing so. Fact check everything they tell you and don't fall for the sweet talk or the canard that all schools are the same. They most certainly are not.

They are also constantly advertising for faculty, probably because no reputable teachers would work there.

Yes, and their situation is getting worse.by the day. The full-time faculty with benefits for the most part have been decimated replaced to a minimal.degee by adjunct people who are often cronies of the campus presidents.

The only issue with.these nursing adjunct people is that they sell their credentials to front for a terrible school and parent scam company called EDMC drawing in students that do not do internet serches on this mess and are desperate to be a nurse or NP at any price. That's the problem. The price for their business failure and cynicism towards student success is always too high. Shame on the nurses who continue to sell out their aspiring nursing colleagues. Thay are Judas goats at best.
