Single Father

Nurses General Nursing

I've just recently been accepted into an LPN to RN program in Florida. However everything that I'm trying to do is a STRUGGLE. I currently live in Ft. Myers and will be commuting to school 2 hours away only to return to work PRN on the weekends. I have a young daughter who is now 6 (months) of age, a failed relationship with her mother who is in arnp school who also works full-time.

After years of trying to get into nursing school, i finally found one that is willing to accept me. My problem is that my current job has set schedules where the LPN's can't pick which days they work. My program requires that I attend school for four consecutive days out of the week in my first semester. As of now my daughter lives with her mother and i do my part to make sure my little girl needs are met. I don't get that much time to spend with her. Although it hurts not seeing everyday, i decided to use this time to improve myself for our sake.

It has been a struggle to get into school and to find a stable full-time job. Often i feel like doors are shut in my face when i try to better myself or my situation. I do have family support from my father who's able to help when they can. But if anything where to happen to my father, I'm not sure how i can survive which frightens me. I want to be in a place where i can meet my daughters needs at all cost.I recently decided to go PRN at my full-time job because life is not guaranteed. I could lose my job and miss the opportunity to go back to school to improve my situation. My daughter is depending on me, Im depending on me because I don't want to fail my daughter. Its my dream to be an RN. If my failed relationship never works out with my daughters mom, I want to be able to take care of her like any responsible parent should. Life is most difficult when you don't have a friend to share the weight. Has anybody been in a similar situation? How did you find the strength to make it?

I was a single mother in nursing school. It required sacrifices, but I can honestly say it was worth it. Now my daughter and I live a comfortable life and I have a career that I love. Was it easy as a single parent? Nope. Would I do it again? Absolutely. Don't give up hope if this is truly your dream. Good luck to you.

Just wanted to say thanks after all these years

Hey BTW, its been a while and I would like to share with you that by God's grace, I finished my ASN program going on 3 years and now I'm finishing up my BSN. I've been able to take care of my daughter. Thank you for your encouraging words.

Yay! Some good news!

This is great news.

Best wishes to you.

That's awesome to hear. CONGRATS!
