Are sign-on bonuses a thing of the past?

I remember when I started nursing school 6-7 years ago, sign on bonuses for RN's of ANY degree level were $10,000+ in my area. Well, we all know what happened to that "shortage" and the glut of RN's looking for employment! Is there such a thing as an attractive bonus for accepting a position with a facility? When I took my current position about 4 months ago, with it came $4500 for coming aboard, payable in increments over a period of time, of course. Anyone else?

Any sigh on bonus in New York City?

Recently saw a $5k sign-on for experienced ED nurses in at Methodist hospital in Baytown, TX (east of Houston). Other recruitment bonuses are showing up now in the Houston area for experienced specialty RNs.. some require specialty certification, all are BSN required. Some of these are being driven by service expansions.

Have not heard of anyone giving bonuses in the past 2-3 years, we have about 20 applications for each position here in SC, many are new grads. However there are many states ie: florida, that are giving BIG bonuses plus moving expenses for Nurses!

for what departments? Qualify big bonuses for have always found FL to pay very poorly even in a good economy.
