Question For NurseMommies, 2year old experience in ER exposure concern

So in september my husband and I rushed our 2 year old daughter to the ER for a fever spike of 104.5 when we got there by baby was very upset and the Nurse on duty was in a hurry and used a rectal thermometer on her without a cover, since then I have spoken quth her Ped. and basically they have irders in place if I want to screen her for hepatitis abd HIV now I am worried but dont know if that is just me being a Nurse or legit, She has not had any symptoms or ill affect from the incident just looking for anyone who has experienced something like this for comfort

I have tried to talk to her about the risk and she wont really give me a yes she was at high risk or a no she wasnt, just the orders are in place if you wish to use them

That's very unfortunate. Your pediatrician should be willing to advise and counsel you. Unfortunately, we cannot give medical advice here.

I agree....and I'd take it one step further. Write it up (and get help with spelling and grammar prn) and send to the hospital ER Nurse manager with a cc to Risk Management. Ask the hospital to provide those screens at no charge to you (they'll probably be negative anyway but you can pretend you don't know that). Then sit back and see what happens.

As others have said we cannot give medical advice. I definitely would go have a chat with the hospital. If your child's pediatrician isn't helping the situation at all, maybe it's time to find a new one.
