This question is a little premature at the moment, but I have a question about postmortem care on super morbidly obese pt.

What do you do to prepare the body for transport if they do not fit in the shroud?

Not sure if I worded that very well.. I'm not asking about the actual prep, just how do you sent the body to the funeral home, etc if they are too large for the shroud.

I'm sleepy and rambling.

Thanks!

At our hospital, the mortuary crew is more than happy to assist with covering the body prior to tranporting. Good Luck.

The mortuary people have used sheets.

We use a sheet instead.

That is what I thought would be the process, but wanted a couple of opinions. Thanks!

Hi There,

I'm an ICU nurse in Australia, and we had this exact problem a few weeks ago. In the end, we had to 'dress' the patient in a sheet and then lay another sheet over top. We have a specific collection trolley for deceased patients, which has a high sides and a large cover that hides everything but the wheels, but this patient did not fit in it. Eventually after HOURS of trying to find a solution, we ended up getting the funeral home to bring the trolley they use for collections ( which fit, thankfully) and they picked up the patient directly from the unit.
