Posted Video of Nurse Singing to Dying Patient

Today I was scrolling through Facebook and saw a video posted to Youtube of a nurse singing to a dying patient. I am a fellow Oncology nurse and would do anything for my patients. I believe what she did is beautiful; however, my concern lies in what you can see in the video. You can clearly see the nurses' badge with her info, and half of the patient's bracelet. These items could be replicated and used in a malicious way in my opinion. In fact, my facility has a policy where you can be reprimanded if you post a picture or video of your badge. I'm also not a big fan of the patient care going on in the background. I will note that the video posted was posted by family, so it appears they consent.

My question to you all is - am I overreacting? Does this bother anyone else?

I'm not sure there's much to be done about it if it was posted by family, and I would agree that's not generally appropriate even for family to post the patient's personal moments publically, but then again I'm a social media curmudgeon. I'm not really sure how this could be used "in a malicious way" however.

Maybe malicious isn't the word I was looking for? Basically, we were told never to post our badges because they could potentially be duplicated by individuals in order to attempt to gain access to the hospital/clinic/etc.

I think if you were going to make a counterfeit badge it make more sense use a screengrab of the organizations logo from their website, which will produce a higher quality image than taking it from an image of someone's badge found on social media.

Generally employees are prohibited from posting pictures of themselves with their badge visible mainly because the organization they work for doesn't want it publically advertised where they work in case there is something about the picture someone could find offensive, which can be true of most any picture it seems.

I recently saw someone post a photo of their passing results from their NP certification test. The paper has their photo, full name, date, and the name of the certification. Someone commented that it wasn't safe to post that because your identity could be stolen.

In my opinion, concerns such these are usually overrated. Yes, someone could take your name and make a fake badge or certificate. Or they could just go on nursys.com and get your actual license number. They can google you and often find your home address. Lots of people have their work info right on their Facebook or LinkedIn profile. They can even make a fake badge with a totally made-up name. If someone wants to steal your nursing identity, they can do it even without this picture/video.
