I have been an ED nurse for about 2 years now and I live in the state of IL. This state is about to die. I am looking for a possible relocation, was wondering about opportunities in emergency rooms in Nebraska. Btw I only have my associates, any input would be appreciated.

As a former Illinoisan, I feel your pain! I second your desire to get out of that sinking heck-hole as soon as possible.

NE is a great place to live 9 months of the year. Winters are harsh, but you are probably used to that. We have relatively low unemployment, good quality of life, decent public schools, phenomenal private options, and a surprisingly large and respected health care industry for a state that is mostly rural. Our tax burden is high compared to other states, so don't expect a big break on taxes.

The bulk of the population of NE lives within an hour of the Iowa border in the Omaha and Lincoln areas. Nursing jobs are available in these cities, and while BS degrees are preferred, they are not a firm requirement for most employers. If you are interested and willing to consider a rural setting, I believe you could literally go just about anywhere and find employment.

I can't comment on the demand for nurses, but I grew up in Omaha and it is a wonderful place full of better-than-most people.

Actually your state has a tax surplus of 2.5k a year, i have done my research and your state has been doing very well the last 10 years budget is controlled well.
